Stanford sophomore Christine Carpenter (Yucaipa, CA) helped keep the No. 1 Cardinal unbeaten, defeating fellow top-ranked team USC 10-6 in the championship game of the Barbara Kalbus Invitational (Feb. 23). Stanford also defeated Cal State Fullerton (19-6), No. 10 UC San Diego (17-3) and No. 3 UCLA (14-4). In three games, Carpenter totaled 24 saves, including a career-high 13 stops against USC, while helping limit the Trojans to six goals (eight less than their previous season-low) on 32 shots, and a 2-for-11 power play. This is the first career MPSF weekly award for Carpenter.
