Menlo junior Kalila Shrive (Tracy, CA) kicked off the season with a 180-pound gold medal finish at the Menlo Open (Nov. 2). Shrive made a huge statement in her return to the mat, opening the tournament with a 16-second fall before rolling through the quarterfinals with a 10-0 technical fall. In the semifinals, she grinded out a 3-2 victory over No. 5-ranked NAIA wrestler Katharyn Hingano of Southern Oregon. Shrive then capped her day with a 31-second pin in the final over reigning NAIA National Champion and top-ranked Ashley Lekas of Texas Wesleyan. This is the first career MPSF weekly award for Shrive.
