Menlo senior Kanai Tapia (Waianae, HI) opened the Roadrunner Invite (Nov. 23) with an 11–2 major decision over host CSU Bakersfield’s Evan Manzo, the first of his four victories over D-I Opponents. Tapia followed up with an explosive 15–0 tech fall over Cal Poly Humboldt. After a quarterfinal loss to Air Force, Tapia responded on the backside of the bracket. He had back-to-back major decisions, including a second win over CSU Bakersfield as well as a win over Air Force. In his final bout of the day, Tapia had two late takedowns on Stanford’s Dylan Pile before the clock expired, finishing in fifth-place (165 lbs.). This is the first career MPSF weekly award for Tapia.
