#2 STANFORD (8-1) did not compete last week. The Cardinal will return to action on Feb. 7 and 9 at the Winter Cup Challenge.
#3 CALIFORNIA (2-1) did not compete last week. The Golden Bears will return to action on Feb. 7 and 9 at the Winter Cup Challenge.
#4 OKLAHOMA (6-0) sophomore Ian Jackson won his first all-around title of the season as the Sooners defeated No. 12 Nebraska 355.500-337.750 on Feb. 1. OU also defeated the Huskers at the Rocky Mountain Open, Jan. 12 in Colorado Springs, Colo., and in a tri-meet with the Air Force Academy in Lincoln, Neb., on Jan. 20. The Sooners claimed team titles on all six events and OU gymnasts won at least a share of each individual event crown. The Sooners swept the top four spots on floor, with junior Russell Czeschin winning the event title with a season-best 15.450. Oklahoma also took the top four places on rings, vault and high bar. Jackson was the vault champion with a 15.900. Senior co-captain Jonathan Horton took the rings crown for the second straight week with a 15.750 and also won the high bar title with a 14.700. OU's other event titleists were senior co-captain Taqiy Abdullah-Simmons on p-bars (14.900).
#11 NEBRASKA (2-5) scored a team mark of 337.75 while falling to Oklahoma (355.500) on Feb. 1. Junior T.J. Schmidt earned his third pommel horse title on the year, tying Oklahoma's Jason Laughton for first place with a score of 14.35. Schmidt was also second on parallel bars with a score of 14.70. Senior captain Stephen Tétrault posted a third-place finish in the all-around with a score of 83.40. Floor exercise was full of highs for Nebraska, as junior Eric Daigle first posted a career-high score of 13.80 before sophomore Josh Rusler, a native of Norman, Okla., wowed his hometown crowd with another career-high score of 13.70. Tétrault also tied his career high with a mark of 13.90. Despite several rough rotations, Nebraska finished strong on parallel bars with a score of 56.46. Schmidt earned a second-place finish with a score of 14.70.
#16 AIR FORCE (2-4) picked up back-to-back road wins, defeating Army 331.350-331.300 and Springfield 337.500-333.000. Greg Stine was instrumental to the Falcons' narrow victory over the Black Knights, as he won five event titles with Academy record-setting performances. He scored a record 15.000 to win the floor exercise and shattered the Academy record on the still rings (15.450). Stine also equaled the program standard of 15.400 to win the vault, while winning the parallel bars with another record performance of 14.750. Stine increased his own Academy record in the all-around to win the event with a score of 87.150. Air Force set a season-best score in its win over Springfield. Stine won five of the six individual events, as well as the all-around competition, while posting Academy-record scores on the still rings (15.600) and the high bar (14.650).
STINE NAMED MPSF GYMNAST OF THE WEEK Woodland, Calif. - Greg Stine of Air Force led his team to two victories last weekend by winning nine individual events and two all-around titles over the weekend ... against Army he scored an 87.150 in the all-around and against Springfield he scored an 87.050 in the all-around ... helped the Falcons improve season-best team total by nearly 15 points during the weekend ... Air Force increased its total nearly eight points in win over Army (331.300) and then over six more points in the victory over Springfield (337.500).
