STANFORD stayed unbeaten on its home field with two more wins, 14-10 over Boston College and a huge 10-8 upset over fifth-ranked Pennsylvania, last year's NCAA runner-up. These outcomes come on the heels of a win over then top-10 Notre Dame one week ago. Senior Daphne Patterson scored three goals and senior goalkeeper Laura Shane recorded 12 saves against the Quakers as the Cardinal led the entire game. Penn scored four goals in the final nine minutes but it wasn't enough to hold off the upset bid. Patterson tallied another hat trick earlier in the week against the Eagles, along with an assist. Sophomore Dana Lindsay had a game-high five points, on three goals and two assists. Senior Megan McClain also had three goals. The 15th-ranked Cardinal is now off until Mar. 22 when No. 2 Maryland comes to Palo Alto.
OREGON won its fifth and sixth straight games this past weekend in the East-West Challenge in Southern California, a 14-13 upset over No. 11 Notre Dame in San Diego and 10-9 win over Temple in Pasadena. Six straight wins is a new record for Oregon lacrosse, while a 6-1 overall mark is the best start in the four-year history of the program. Junior Ilsa van den Berg totaled five goals and one assist against the Irish, including the game-winning goal with three seconds left. The 18th-ranked Ducks scored twice in the last 15 seconds to pull off the upset. Senior Jen May tallied four goals, including a second half hat trick, along with an assist. No. 7 North Carolina and Columbia travel to Oregon this week, Tuesday (Mar. 11) and Sunday (Mar. 16), respectively.
CALIFORNIA split two games at the East-West Challenge in Southern California, defeating Temple 10-7 and falling to No. 11 Notre Dame 18-8. Senior Danni Zuralow scored four goals against the Owls, nailing a first half hat trick. No. 5 Pennsylvania and Quinnipiac visit Berkeley this week, Tuesday and Friday (Mar. 11 & 14).
UC DAVIS outlasted Quinnipiac Monday, 16-14. Senior Katie McMahon scored six goals and two assists, her second consecutive six-goal game. Senior Katie McGovern had four goals and two assists. Freshman Christina Corsa scored two of her four goals in the final five minutes of the game. Senior Hilary Harkins posted 13 saves in the crease. Temple visits on Thursday.
ST. MARY'S junior goalkeeper Hilary Gardner collected a career-high 16 saves last Wednesday in a 15-5 loss to Fairfield. Sophomore Amy Daniels had two goals and an assist. The Gaels also competed at the Navy Tournament, falling to Cincinnati 12-7 and Navy 18-6. Senior Lisa Vogeley chipped in one goal and two assists vs. the Bearcats. SMC has three home games this week, Temple Tuesday (Mar. 11), Monmouth Thursday (Mar. 13), and Long Island Saturday (Mar. 15).
DENVER continues its homestand Tuesday (Mar. 11) against Connecticut. In their last game, the 18th-ranked Pioneers gave No. 9 Georgetown a huge scare last Monday (Mar. 3) in Denver, but the Hoyas pulled out a 12-11 overtime win.
VAN DEN BERG AND PATTERSON NAMED MPSF PLAYERS OF THE WEEK Woodland, Calif. - Oregon junior Ilsa van den Berg (Reisterstown, MD) scored five goals with one assist in a 14-13 upset over No. 11 Notre Dame last Thursday in San Diego, knocking home the game-winner with three seconds left in the game. She came back the next day and had one goal and one assist in a win over Temple....Stanford senior Daphne Patterson (New York, NY) also tallied six goals during the week, with one assist. The Cardinal shocked No. 5 Penn 10-8, when she scored three goals, including one with 12 seconds left to seal the win. Patterson also scored three more along with an assist in the win over BC.
