DAVIS, Calif. -- Sophomore Tanya Ho and senior Michelle Kulovitz swept the top two spots in the individual all-around as UC Davis scored a school-record 194.700 to win its first-ever Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's gymnastics title during the conference championship meet at the Pavilion Friday.
Two-time defending champ Seattle Pacific finished second in the meet with a 193.000 total. Alaska Anchorage scored a 192.825 to finish third, while Air Force was fourth at 192.275. All four times posted season-best marks.
Both Ho and Kulovitz scored career-best all-around totals during the meet. Ho won the all-around at 39.025, becoming only the fourth Aggie gymnast to surpass the 39-point barrier. Kulovitz totalled a 38.875, bettering her previous best by five hundredths of a point.
In all, UC Davis won or shared the event title on all four apparatus. Kulovitz matched sophomore teammate Michelle Bobonski with 9.800 marks on vault. Sophomore Lida Gehlen hit a career-high 9.900 to win the uneven bars and further improve her chances of qualifying for the NCAA West Regional.
Sophomore Christine Tao crushed her previous best with a 9.800, tying Seattle Pacific's Anissa Madrid for the beam title. And junior Adee Schoffman easily surpassed her PR on floor with a 9.825, good for a tie for first place with Alaska Anchorage's Kelsey Fullerton.
Kulovitz and Air Force's Abbey Rogers were named co-winners of the MPSF Gymnast of the Year honors. Rogers placed third in the all-around with a 38.650, and took part in a three-way tie for third on floor exercise at 9.800.
Aggie head coach John Lavallee was selected as MPSF Head Coach of the Year, while Teri Lavallee earned the Assistant Coach of the Year nod.
This is the seventh running of the MPSF Championship for women's gymnastics, and the second time the meet was hosted by UC Davis.
