UCLA used a 6-2 second half surge to survive a major MPSF road test last Friday, winning 9-5 at No. 4 Hawaii. Tied at 3 at halftime, senior Courtney Mathewson nailed a third quarter hat trick to put the top-ranked Bruins ahead for good. Senior Jillian Kraus and junior Tanya Gandy added two goals each. Junior goalkeeper Brittany Fullen picked up 10 saves. 22-0 and first-place UCLA next competes at home against Cal and Pacific this weekend (Apr. 5-6) in a pair of MPSF games. The top-ranked Bruins have won 30 straight dating back to last year.

STANFORD moved into third-place by giving No. 4 Hawaii its first MPSF loss last Monday, 10-9 in overtime, and defeating Long Beach State 15-7 Saturday in Palo Alto. The No. 2 Cardinal also handed Brown a 16-5 setback that day, followed by a 19-9 win at CS Monterey Bay Sunday. Freshman Allie Gerrity recorded her first hat trick in the MPSF win over the 49ers. Stanford totaled 60 goals in four games this past week, and now visits CS Northridge and second place USC Friday and Saturday (Apr. 4-5).

USC won 17-6 at home over No. 18 UCSB Friday, as senior Veronika Bartunkova scored a career-high five goals. She came back the next day to knock in four goals in an important 13-8 win at No. 6 San Diego State, breaking the Aztecs' nine-game win streak. USC Raced out to a 9-4 lead at the half. The second-place Trojans host third-place Stanford Saturday (Apr. 5), followed by San Jose State Sunday (Apr. 6). USC and Stanford have split two non-conference meetings this year.

ARIZONA STATE won all four of its games at the ASU Invite over the weekend, defeating Pacific in MPSF play (17-9), CS San Bernardino (11-3), Cal Baptist (14-4) No. 19 UC San Diego (8-4). It was a milestone weekend for the Sun Devils. Junior Addison McGrath scored her 64th goal of the season against the Tritons, setting a new ASU single-season scoring record. Senior goalkeeper Caylinn Wallace notched her 1,000th career save against the Lancers, while Head Coach Todd Clapper picked up his 150th career win in that game. Wallace totaled 43 saves in the invitational. ASU travels to UC Santa Barbara Saturday (Apr. 5).

SAN JOSE STATE defeated No. 13 Long Beach State 8-5 in its only game of the week, in a conference home game Sunday. Senior Kendra Adama recorded 11 saves in the cage, while freshman Adrianna Vogt and sophomore Bridget McKee each nailed a hat trick. The Spartans are headed to CS Northridge Saturday (Apr. 5) and USC Sunday (Apr. 6).

SAN DIEGO STATE edged No. 5 California 7-5 last Thursday, before having a nine-game win streak come to an end against No. 3 USC Satuday, 13-8. Juniors Jenna Schuster and Anna Gonzales scored four and three goals respectively in the loss. Senior goalkeeper Heather Fenske was the player of the game against the Bears with 14 saves. SDSU plays Chapman and UC San Diego Saturday (Apr. 5) in La Jolla.

CALIFORNIA dropped a 7-5 MPSF contest at San Diego State last Thursday, though bounced back with wins over Brown 14-3 and No. 14 Hartwick 14-7. Senior Molly Hayes scored four goals vs. Hartwick. 11 players scored against Brown. Cal heads south to top-ranked UCLA Saturday (Apr. 5) followed by UC Santa Barbara Sunday (Apr. 6).

UC IRVINE had no problem with the top-ranked DIII Pomona-Pitzer last Wednesday, 14-3. The Anteaters host CS Northridge Wednesday (Apr. 2) and travel to Hawaii Friday (Apr. 4) in a pair of MPSF games.

CAL STATE NORTHRIDGE split two games on the Loyola Marymount campus Saturday, falling to the No. 11 Lions 9-4 and coming back to top CS Bakersfield 10-8. The Matadors were down 8-7 early in the fourth. Sophomore Jilian Stapf collected eight saves in goal each game. Junior Jessica Coy scored four goals to lead the win. CSUN has a busy MPSF week, visiting UC Irvine Wed. (Apr. 2), before hosting Stanford Fri. (Apr. 4) and San Jose State Sat. (Apr. 5).

HAWAII junior Angela Turnbull scored three goals Friday against top-ranked UCLA, but it was not enough to lift the No. 4 Rainbow Wahine to the upset. Turnbull also registered a Monday hat trick in the 10-9 overtime loss to No. 2 Stanford. Freshman Serena Bredin stopped 10 shots in goal vs. the Bruins. Hawaii hosts UC Irvine Friday (Apr. 4) as conference play continues.

LONG BEACH STATE dropped a pair of conference road games, 15-7 at No. 2 Stanford and 8-5 at No. 9 San Jose State. Freshman Kristen Stragier had eight saves vs. the Spartans and nine vs. the Cardinal. Senior Dayna Wawrzynski had four goals in Palo Alto. The 49ers host Loyola Marymount Thursday (Apr. 3).

PACIFIC dropped four games at the Arizona State Invitational. Senior MPSF scoring leader Kellie Fletcher tallied 12 goals over the weekend, including seven in a 13-11 overtime loss to CS San Bernardino. The Tigers visit No. 1 UCLA Sunday (Apr. 6).

UC SANTA BARBARA lost 17-6 at No. 3 USC last Friday. UCSB hosts three straight MPSF games, beginning Apr. 5 with ASU.

BARTUNKOVA AND WALLACE MPSF MIKASA PLAYERS OF THE WEEK Woodland, Calif. - USC senior Veronika Bartunkova (Strakonice, Czech Republic) scored nine goals in two MPSF games this past weekend. She poured in a career-high five in a 17-6 win over UCSB followed by four in a 13-8 win at No. 6 San Diego State. The win snapped the Aztecs' nine-game win streak and put the Trojans in sole possession of second place.... Arizona State senior goalkeeper Caylinn Wallace (Laguna Hills, CA/Laguna Hills HS) stopped 45 shots in four games (11.25/gm) as the Sun Devils went 4-0 at the ASU Invite. Wallace reached the impressive milestone of 1,000 career saves in the win over Cal Baptist, while her 268 on the season has become a new single-season school record. This is her second award this year, also winning it after a 15-save effort in an upset over Cal.
