#1 STANFORD (15-1) recorded another impressive team score (361.300) on their way to defeating No. 5 Michigan (361.150) in Ann Arbor. Sophomore Greg Ter-Zakhariants was again dominant on the floor exercise as he scored a 15.500 to take the title. Senior Chris Harper won the pommel horse with a score of 15.150. Vault was solid for the Cardinal as every gymnast hit their attempt and scored in the mid to high 15.000's. Senior Dylan Carney contributed a stellar performance to win the high bar with 15.400. Freshman Ryan Lieberman led the way on the parallel bars to place first place (15.500) and lead the Cardinal to the win.
#3 OKLAHOMA (11-1) did not compete as a team last week but Jonathan Horton finished in fifth place Saturday at the Tyson American Cup at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The two-time defending champion at the event, Horton was trying to become the first men's gymnast to win three straight American Cup titles since the USA's Blaine Wilson (1997-1999). 2004 Olympic all-around gold-medalist Paul Hamm won the men's competition with a 94.400 total, followed by U.S. national squad teammate Alexander Artemev (91.150).
#4 CALIFORNIA (5-3) did not compete last week. The Golden Bears will return to action at the Big Flip Off on March 8 at Stanford.
#11 NEBRASKA (3-8) captured second place against No. 8 Minnesota and No. 9 Temple in Minneapolis, Minn. NU fell by less than a point to Minnesota, 342.80-341.90, but was able to soar past the Owls (326.10). Nebraska earned three individual event titles, including a pair from junior T.J. Schmidt on the pommel horse (14.65) and the parallel bars (14.80). Sophomore Kyle Shanahan also captured his second high bar title of the year with a score of 13.95. Senior Stephen Tétrault stepped up his level of competition, earning second on pommel horse (14.55) and vault (15.75) before placing second in the all-around with a season high score of 84.20.
#16 AIR FORCE (4-11) swept first-place finishes on every event at the Southwest Cup on Saturday, March 1, in Tempe, Ariz. Senior Greg Stine won the all-around and five of six individual events, while sophomore Garrett Canter claimed the final event title. As a team, the Falcons posted its second-highest score of the season. Accumulating a score of 334.900, Air Force defeated host Arizona State (322.100) for the second time this season. During the meet, the Falcons set season-best scores on the parallel bars (56.350) and high bar (54.550). Under the new scoring system that went into effect this season, Stine set two Academy records during the meet, winning the floor exercise with a mark of 15.200 and the all-around with a total of 87.400. Stine also won the still rings (14.800), vault (15.350), parallel bars (14.700) and high bar (14.300).
MPSF GYMNAST OF THE WEEK Woodland, Calif. - Ryan Lieberman of Stanford has been named the MPSF gymnast of the week for his performance in the Cardinal's victory over Michigan. Lieberman scored a victory in the parallel bars with a score of 15.500 while finishing tied for third in the high bar with a 14.700. No. 1 Stanford defeated No. 5 Michigan 361.300 to 361.150.
