Stanford, Oklahoma, California and Nebraska did not compete last week as Air Force took third at the USA Gymnastics Collegiate Championships. All five MPSF teams will head to Lincoln, Neb., on April 5 for the 2008 MPSF men's gymnastics championship.
Since the start of men's gymnastics in the MPSF, Nebraska has won the conference title twice, while Oklahoma holds eight titles, California owns three and Stanford has one.
Tickets for the championship are available at the Devaney Center doors on April 5 or through the official Nebraska Athletic Ticket Office website at Huskers.com or by calling 800-8BIGRED. All seats are general admission and tickets for adults will be priced at $5, while tickets for NU students and students K-12 will be priced at $3.
Air Force Senior Greg Stine won his third USA Gymnastics national all-around title, as the Air Force men's gymnastics team picked up a third-place finish at the USAG Collegiate Championships on Friday, March 28, in Springfield, Mass. The Falcons tallied a team total of 335.100 to finish third within the field of five "varsity level" teams during the first day of competition.
Junior Jacob Schonig and senior Greg Stine earned national titles during the individual event finals portion of the USA Gymnastics Collegiate Championships on Saturday, March 29, in Springfield, Mass. Schonig took first on the still rings, while Stine claimed top honors on the parallel bars with a new Academy record.
Schonig picked up his first career USAG national title, after matching last night's score of 15.550 to easily distance himself from the rest of the rest of the field. With his second straight USAG All-America certificate, Schonig becomes the eighth gymnast in Air Force history to earn a USAG national title and the third on the still rings.
Kip Simons was named Coach of the Year and Greg Stine was chosen as the Outstanding Senior Gymnast at the conclusion of the USA Gymnastics Collegiate Championships, which were held this past weekend in Springfield, Mass.
STINE NAMED MPSF GYMNAST OF THE WEEK Woodland, Calif. - Greg Stine of Air Force has been named the MPSF men's gymnast of the week for his efforts at the USAG Championships. On Friday he won his third consecutive USA Gymnastics national all-around title with a combined score of 86.800, a two-point advantage over the rest of the field. On Saturday Stine won the USAG national title on the parallel bars with a score of 14.900, a new Academy record. Stine earned three other USAG All-America certificates, placing third on the floor exercise (14.65) and still rings (14.500) and sixth on the high bar (12.850). Stine finishes his career with seven USAG national titles and 15 USAG All-America certificates, more than any other gymnast in Air Force history.
