Three MPSF Teams Win on East Coast

ST. MARY'S (0-0 MPSF, 1-3 overall) picked up its first victory of the year with a 15-6 outcome at Presbyterian on Sunday. The Gaels scored three goals in the first three minutes of the contest in Clinton, S.C, which grew to a 7-1 lead later in the half. Senior P.J. Hainley recorded a game-high five goals, while Amy Daniels and Meagan Wehe each netted hat tricks. Goalkeeper Hilary Gardner collected eight saves in her first win of '09. First-place Stanford visits Moraga Friday (Mar. 6).

DENVER (0-0 MPSF, 4-3 overall) went 1-1 this past weekend on the east coast, winning 16-6 at Mount St. Mary's and coming up short at No. 7 Georgetown, 12-8. Junior Ali Flury put away five goals and one assist in the win at Emmitsburg, MD. Senior Megan Carver collected seven points on three goals and four assists. Steph Coyne collected three goals and two assists and Karen Morton scored four with a pair of helpers. Denver returns home Monday (Mar. 9) to face another Top-10 opponent, North Carolina.

CALIFORNIA (1-0 MPSF, 3-3 overall) split two games in Philadelphia over the weekend, defeated by fifth-ranked Penn, 10-2, and edging Temple, 8-6. Alex Tickner nailed the hat trick in the win, one of six Bears' to score. Morgan Dyson picked up seven saves between the pipes in the complete game victory. The Bears host UC Davis Sunday (Mar. 8) in an MPSF game.

NO. 18 STANFORD (3-0 MPSF, 4-2 overall) raced out to a 14-1 halftime lead last Wednesday at UC Davis en route to a 20-3 MPSF win to stay unbeaten in the conference. Thirteen different Stanford players scored, with Sarah Flynn recording the hat trick. Saturday, No. 12 Notre Dame defeated Stanford 17-8 in South Bend, IN. The 18th-ranked Cardinal continues their MPSF schedule at St. Mary's Friday (Mar. 6), before returning home to face William & Mary Sunday (Mar. 8).

UC DAVIS (2-2 MPSF, 2-2 overall) split a pair of MPSF contests at home this past week, falling to No. 16 Stanford, 20-3, before bouncing back with a 15-3 decision over Fresno State. The Aggies received hat tricks from Patrice Clark and Britt Farquharson in the win. Christina Corsa and Molly Lapolla each dished out three assists, while Clark added one for her fourth point. UC Davis heads to California in another conference game Saturday (Mar. 7).

FRESNO STATE (0-3 MPSF, 0-4 overall) dropped a 15-3 MPSF game at UC Davis last Saturday. Aja Scheuber, Allie Zachariades, and Andrea Alires were the Bulldog scorers. Fresno State visit Oregon Friday (Mar. 6) as MPSF action resumes.

OREGON (1-1 MPSF, 2-2 overall) is coming off a bye week, and will host Fresno State in an MPSF contest Friday (Mar. 6), followed by Vermont Sunday (Mar. 8). Last time out, the Ducks took a 15-7 loss at No. 9 North Carolina (Feb. 20) and an 11-8 win over Stony Brook (Feb. 22) in Baltimore. Freshman Catherine Davidson nailed her first career hat-trick in the win.

ALEX TICKNER MPSF PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Woodland, Calif. - California junior midfielder Alex Tickner (Rockville, MD/Holton-Arms HS) led all players with three goals (on eight shots) as the Bears edged Temple 8-6 this past Sunday in Philadelphia. She also caused a pair of turnovers in the win, and scored once in Friday's 10-2 loss at fifth-ranked Pennsylvania.
