MPSF Unbeatens to Battle as UCLA Visits Stanford

STANFORD (4-0 MPSF, 20-1 overall) swept four games on its Southern California road swing to extend its win streak to 17. The wins were over San Diego State (11-6) in MPSF, and UC San Diego (11-5), Long Beach State (7-2) and UC Irvine (14-7) in non-conference play. Melissa Seidemann and Lauren Silver each scored 10 goals on the week. The Cardinal takes on UCLA in a huge home game Friday (Apr. 3), featuring a pair of MPSF unbeatens. Stanford took the non-conference meeting on Feb. 8 in Palo Alto, 10-5.

UCLA (5-0 MPSF, 20-3 overall) won a non-conference home doubleheader last Thursday against No. 12 Hartwick (15-6) and Brown (15-9). Anne Belden and Katie Rulon scored three goals apiece vs. Hartwick, as UCLA opened up a 7-0 first quarter lead. Tanya Gandy and Priscilla Orozco also scored three vs. the Bears. The Bruins have just one game this week, though it is an enormous one at top-ranked Stanford Friday (Apr. 3) in a battle of MPSF unbeatens.

SAN JOSE STATE (3-4 MPSF, 15-11 overall) received a 17-goal week by Juliet Moss in a 4-0 weekend at the Arizona State Invitational and extending its win streak to seven. Moss tied her own single-game school record with seven goals in a big 19-14 MPSF win at Arizona State. The Spartans also knocked off No. 9 UC Irvine (14-7), Cal Baptist (15-9) and Cal Lutheran (19-2) in Tempe. Tanya Torres combined for 13 goals. San Jose State is at the Santa Clara Tournament this weekend to face UC San Diego, CS San Bernardino, CS Bakersfield, and LMU.

USC (5-0 MPSF, 17-1 overall) defeated No. 16 UC San Diego (21-5) and No. 7 San Diego State (10-7) on the road this past weekend. Kristen Dronberger totaled five goals, including a career-high four and a first quarter hat trick in the non-conference win. Michelle Stein recorded three goals in the MPSF win over the Aztecs. The Trojans host Loyola Marymount and CS San Bernardino in a doubleheader Thursday (Apr. 2).

HAWAII (2-4 MPSF, 15-7 overall) earned a tight 6-5 MPSF home win over No. 5 California last Saturday, as Kelly Mason delivered the game-winner with 14 seconds left in regulation, her only goal on the day. Carmen Eggens was the game's lone multiple-goal scorer with two. The Rainbow Wahine stay home for more conference action Friday (Apr. 3) against San Diego State.

ARIZONA STATE (0-5 MPSF, 13-10 overall) hosted the ASU Invitational last weekend and won three of four games. The Sun Devils used a scoring rampage to knock off No. 9 UC Irvine (11-10), No. 20 Santa Clara (11-10, OT), and Cal Lutheran (25-6). ASU dropped an MPSF game to No. 6 San Jose State (19-14). Lynlee Smith combined for 22 of the Sun Devils' 61 weekend goals, tying a single-game record with seven vs. CLU. ASU travels to California Saturday.

CALIFORNIA (2-3 MPSF, 27-5 overall) dropped a tough down-to-the-wire decision at Hawaii, 6-5 last Saturday. Two-time MPSF Player of the Week Stephanie Peckham continues to shine in the cage, recording 10 saves and holding the opponent to six goals in the loss. Arizona State visits Berkeley on Saturday (Apr. 4) as MPSF action resumes.

SAN DIEGO STATE (0-5 MPSF, 20-7 overall) dropped a pair at home to the nation's top-two in No. 1 Stanford (11-6) and No. 2 USC (10-7). Anna Gonzales scored a hat trick vs. the Trojans while Kelly Campoli picked up 13 saves in the cage. Campoli added 16 stops vs. the Cardinal. The Aztecs visit Hawaii Friday (Apr. 3) for another conference game.

MOSS AND SMITH MPSF MIKASA PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Woodland, Calif. -San Jose State senior 2-Meter Juliet Moss (San Jose, CA/Mt. Pleasant HS) poured in 17 goals in four games (4.25 GPG), as the Spartans ran their win streak to seven. In a 19-14 MPSF win at No. 8 Arizona State, Moss tied her own single-game school record with seven goals. She also added four in the win over No. 9 UCI. With these efforts, Moss became the first player in San Jose State history to score 50 or more goals in three different seasons.

Woodland, Calif. -Arizona State sophomore attacker Lynlee Smith (Auckland, NZ/Westlake Girls HS) delivered a 22-goal week (5.50 GPG) as the Sun Devils went 3-1 in their own tournament. She scored a career-high four goals in an MPSF loss to San Jose State, five vs. No. 20 Santa Clara, six in a win over No. 9 UCI, and a school-record seven vs. Cal Lutheran.
