Stanford Wins MPSF Championship

#1 STANFORD (11-4) set a season-high score (363.750) in winning the 2009 MPSF Championship Meet at home this past Saturday. The Cardinal placed first as a team on floor, pommel horse, still rings, and high bar, which resulted in snapping Oklahoma's four-year championship run. MPSF Gymnast of the Year Sho Nakamori won four individual titles, on the pommel horse (15.25), high bar (15.0), parallel bars (15.4), and All-Around (91.85). He was also fifth on floor (15.45). Josh Dixon won the floor (15.9) and was second on vault (16.4). Bryant Hadden took the still rings title (15.65), while Tim Gentry was second (15.45). Alex Buscaglia shared the top spot on high bar (15.0) and was fourth on vault (16.05).
#2 OKLAHOMA (12-1) was the runner-up at the MPSF Championship in Palo Alto, CA (358.350), not winning the meet for just the second time in the last 11 years. The Sooners won the team vault title and were second on floor, rings, horse, and high bar. Steven Legendre won the individual vault championship (16.45), while Chris Brooks was third (16.15). Brooks was also fourth on high bar (14.7), third on floor (15.65), and second All-Around (90.05). Legendre came in fourth All-Around (87.45) and second on floor (15.85).
#5 CALIFORNIA (11-3) claimed the team parallel bars title (60.2) and had four different third-place team events en route to a third-place overall team outcome (352.55). Kyson Bunthuwong turned in the highest individual finish for the Bears, second on parallel bars (15.3). Glen Ishino was third on that event (15.2). Kyle Bunthuwong placed third All-Around (89.0), while Ishino came in fifth (87.0).
#9 NEBRASKA (5-10) placed fourth at the MPSF Championships (341.85), with its highest team result on pommel horse, a third-place finish. The Huskers were led by T.J. Schmidt's second-place outcome on horse (15.05). James Mauldin was seventh on horse (14.25) and Kyle Shanahan was eighth on high bar (14.45). John Robinson came in seventh All-Around (82.1).
#14 AIR FORCE (4-19) finished fifth at the MPSF Meet (330.15). The Falcons recorded one seventh-place and two eighth-place routines. Devin Menefee was seventh on vault (15.85), Nash Millls was eighth All-Around (81.25) and Jake Schonig was eighth on rings (15.15).
