Oklahoma Wins 11th-Straight Rocky Mountain Open to Begin 2010

#4 OKLAHOMA (2-0) claimed the Rocky Mountain Open Title for the 11th-straight year by finishing first of three NCAA Division I teams. The Sooners scored a 347.400 to win the competition last Saturday, placing ahead of Nebraska (337.050) and host Air Force (325.850). They claimed five of six individual titles, highlighted by freshman Jake Dalton's first-place scores on vault (16.25), parallel bars (14.9), and high bar (14.8). He also grabbed the All-Around title (87.5) in his first collegiate meet. Steven Legendre won the floor (15.95) and Alex Naddour won the pommel horse (15.2). Oklahoma travels to No. 8 Iowa Saturday (Jan. 23).

#11 NEBRASKA (1-1) opened the 2010 season by earning a second-place finish at the Rocky Mountain Open with a score of 337.050. The Huskers finished behind No. 2 Oklahoma and ahead of No. 13 Air Force. Anthony Ingrelli won the Still Rings title (14.65), while Kyle Shanahan placed second on the parallel bars (14.65) and on high bar (13.9), and finished third All-Around (83.40). Andreas Hofer took third on high bar (13.85). The Huskers are off this week.

#14 AIR FORCE (0-2) opened 2010 by posting its best-ever season- opening team score (325.85) in its annual Rocky Mountain Open. The Falcons placed behind Oklahoma and Nebraska. Freshman James Okamoto placed fourth on the horse (14.05) in his collegiate debut. Junior Nash Mills tallied a sixth place All-Around (80.450), tying for fifth with a career-high on vault (15.7) and placing sixth on bars (13.95). His vault score was third best in Academy history. Air Force is off until Jan. 30, when it travels to Minneapolis, MN, for a tri-meet with Nebraska and host Minnesota.

#2 STANFORD (1-0) began defense of its national championship this past Friday, and placed first at No. 2 California (352.750-340.100). Tim Gentry posted two titles on vault (16.1) and still rings (15.65). Ryan Lieberman won the high bar (14.85) on his way to an All-Around title (87.1). Freshman Eddie Penev turned in a meet-best on floor (15.6) in his collegiate debut. The top-ranked Cardinal meets California again, this time in Palo Alto, Saturday (Jan. 23).

#7 CALIFORNIA (0-1) scored a 340.100 in its season opener last Friday, placing second at home to defending national champion Stanford. The Bears were led by Bryan Del Castillo and Donathon Bailey tying for first on the pommel horse (14.75).Kyle Bunthuwong took the parallel bars title (15.5) and finished second All-Around (86.7). Eric Haeussler placed second on bars (14.9). Cal gets a quick rematch with Stanford Saturday (Jan. 23) in another dual meet in Palo Alto.

Oklahoma freshman Jake Dalton (Reno, NV) won individual event titles on vault (16.25), parallel bars (14.9), and high bar (14.8), on his way to an All-Around Championship (87.5), as the Sooners won their 11th-straight Rocky Mountain Open to begin the season. This was Dalton's first collegiate meet.
