MPSF Unbeaten Stanford Heads to UCLA

STANFORD (17-1 Overall/3-0 MPSF) returned to conference action at home Sunday against Arizona State and picked up a 12-6 victory. The Cardinal had been on break for two weeks. Melissa Seidemann nailed a hat trick, while Kelly Eaton and Kim Krueger put away two goals apiece. Amber Oland collected nine saves in the cage. First-place Stanford rides a seven-game win streak and 3-0 MPSF mark into UCLA Saturday (Mar. 27), followed by a visit to Long Beach State Sunday (Mar. 28).
SAN JOSE STATE (14-8 Overall/2-2 MPSF) received three hat tricks apiece from Adriana Vogt and Dani Curran over a trio of home wins last week against Indiana (12-9), Harvard (13-7), and Arizona State in a conference game (8-7). Kelly Stewart scored her only goal vs. the Sun Devils late in the fourth quarter for the game-winner. Meagan Minson earned 10 saves. San Jose State travels to Loyola Marymount and UCLA this weekend.
SAN DIEGO STATE (16-9 Overall/0-3 MPSF) won three of four in a tournament for the fourth time in 2010, this time at Loyola Marymount. The Aztecs knocked off Pomona (13-4), Princeton (10-8) and Colorado State (11-1)). The loss was to host LMU (6-11). Melissa de Jonckheere scored four goals vs. the Rams and Leanne Ford delivered a hat trick against the Tigers. Amber Pezzolla and Meaghan Polland scored three apiece in Friday's win over Pomona. San Diego State hosts Hawaii Wednesday and visits USC Saturday in a pair of MPSF games.
CALIFORNIA (20-5 Overall/3-2 MPSF) went 2-0 at the Pacific Invitational last Saturday to extend the win streak to six, taking out Indiana (8-5) and host Pacific (11-4). Stephanie Schnugg combined for seven goals, including a season-high five against the Tigers. The Bears are off until Apr. 3, when MPSF action resumes at Arizona State.
ARIZONA STATE (12-8 Overall/0-3 MPSF) dropped a pair of MPSF games in Northern California, 8-7 at San Jose State and 12-6 at Stanford. Sarah Harris scored a hat trick against the Spartans. The Arizona State Invitational takes place this weekend (Mar. 26-28), as the Sun Devils face Cal Baptist Friday, Hawaii in a conference game followed by Concordia Saturday, and Santa Clara Sunday.
USC (12-1 Overall/2-0 MPSF) returns to action Thursday (Mar. 25) by hosting a non-conference game against Long Beach State. The Trojans won their second conference game with a 7-4 home decision over California in their last outing on Mar. 6, extending the win streak to 10.
UCLA (14-5 Overall/2-1 MPSF) was off for finals last week and returns home Saturday and Sunday (Mar. 27-28) for MPSF action against first-place Stanford and San Jose State. Last time out, the Bruins won two games, 8-5 at defending Big West Champion UC Irvine and 13-6 at home over Arizona State in a conference game. Priscilla Orozco led the Bruins with four goals in each outing and Caitlin Dement had 13 saves vs. the Sun Devils.
HAWAII (9-6 Overall/1-2 MPSF) competes Wednesday (Mar. 24) at San Diego State in a conference game, followed by Thursday at UC San Diego and the weekend Arizona State Invitational. The Rainbow Wahine has been off since a win over UCLA on Mar. 6, the longest game in team history in a wild six-overtime home-opening win (9-8). Monika Eggens scored her only goal as the sudden-victory game-winner in the sixth OT period. Carmen Eggens put away a game-high five goals and Serena Bredin tallied 16 stops in the cage.
ADRIANA VOGT MPSF MIKASA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
San Jose State junior utility Adriana Vogt (Menlo Park, CA/ Sacred Heart Prep) combined for nine goals in three wins over No. 16 Indiana, Harvard, and No. 6 Arizona State in an MPSF game, delivering a three-goal hat trick in each outing. She has reached the 40-goal plateau for the third straight season. Vogt has also sparked the defense in not letting an opponent reach double-digit scoring in the current six-game win streak.
