Stanford Heads East to Face the Top-10

#12 STANFORD (0-0 MPSF, 5-2 overall) defeated Cincinnati Monday (Mar. 22), 19-4. The Cardinal put the game away early, scoring the first 12 goals, and up 14-1 by halftime. Dana Lindsay knocked in five goals in the first 17 minutes and Sarah Flynn dished three assists. 12th-ranked Stanford heads east to face a pair of top-10 nationally ranked teams in No. 2 Maryland (8-0) Thursday (Mar. 25) and No. 9 Towson (5-1) Sunday (Mar. 28).
UC DAVIS (2-0 MPSF, 6-1 overall) blanked Liberty Monday (Mar. 22), 21-0, in a neutral site game at St. Francis (PA). Freshman Anna Geissbuhler recorded her third straight hat trick with four goals. Gina Hoffmire also tallied three goals and Molly Lapolla and Britt Farquharson added two goals and three assists apiece. UC Davis continues its six-game road stretch Tuesday (Mar. 23) at Lehigh and Thursday (Mar. 25) at St. Francis (PA).
ST. MARY'S (0-1 MPSF, 3-3 overall) raced out to an 8-0 start at home against Iona last Tuesday, and held on for a 16-15 win to even up the overall record. Freshman Jillian Chong put away a career-high four goals and Mariah Walk added a hat trick. Goalkeeper Whitney Campitiello picked up a career-high nine saves. Cincinnati visits on Wednesday (Mar. 24), followed by Drexel on Friday (Mar. 26).
OREGON (0-0 MPSF, 3-3 overall) defeated Cincinnati last Saturday, 14-8, scoring the first three goals and never trailing. Alex Breiner scored five goals and Jana Drummond added four. Freshman goalkeeper Salliebeth Finnegan had a career-high 14 saves. Monday (Mar. 22), the Ducks began a five-game road swing at No. 19 Hofstra, falling 21-8. Oregon visits Delaware and Johns Hopkins this week.
CALIFORNIA (0-1 MPSF, 2-5 overall) split a pair of games back east, edging Quinnipiac last Friday (11-9) before coming up short at Fairfield Sunday (14-18). Emily Abood delivered a hat trick and Alyse Kennedy scored twice in the win. Kennedy scored three of her four goals to lead a late comeback in the loss. Alex Tickner added a hat trick. The Bears stay east this week, competing at William & Mary Wednesday (Mar. 24) and George Mason Sunday (Mar. 28).
DENVER (1-0 MPSF, 6-2 overall) had its five-game win streak snapped by No. 20 Rutgers last Saturday, 11-8. Ali Flury scored twice and Lexi Sanders added one goal along with two assists. The Pioneers travel to George Mason Friday (Mar. 26) and Albany Sunday (Mar. 28).
FRESNO STATE (0-0 MPSF, 0-6 overall) dropped a 9-6 outcome at home against Iona last Wednesday, as Margaret Wolford and Amanda Cross each had two goals and one assist. Cross added four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Katie Wilbur collected 10 saves in goal. The Bulldogs continue their homestand Tuesday (Mar. 23) vs. Cincinnati in the week's only game.
JANA DRUMMOND MPSF PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Oregon sophomore midfielder Jana Drummond (Nashua, NH/East Grand Rapids HS) recorded four goals in a 14-8 win over Cincinnati last Saturday. She added three draw controls and team season-highs of seven ground balls and five caused turnovers.
