The MPSF has announced its 2010 women's gymnastics awards and all-league teams.
2010 MPSF Gymnast of the Year
Tanya Ho - Senior - UC Davis - Elk Grove, Calif. - St. France HS
After entering the 2010 season with 10 All-MPSF honors and a conference all-around title in 2008, UC Davis senior Tanya Ho caps her career by winning MPSF Gymnast of the Year honors. The Elk Grove, Calif. native and Byers Gymnastics alumna averaged 38.480 in the all-around during her final season, earning MPSF Gymnast of the Week distinction three times. She won the individual all-around in meets at Seattle Pacific, Sacramento State and San Jose State, while adding uneven bars victories in two separate meets against the former MPSF-champion Hornets. Ho helped lead the Aggies to five 194-plus scores during the 2010 season, including a 194.600 in a home triangular with California and Texas Woman's on March 14.
2010 MPSF Coach of the Year
Doug Day - Fourth Year - Air Force
Doug Day is in his fourth season as the Air Force head coach. The Falcons have soared to new heights this season, crossing the 190-point mark on three occasions. Air Force posted its highest team total in six years - 193.300 - in its final home meet of the season. Under Day's leadership, the six upperclassmen have accounted for 13 career-best scores this year, including six marks over 9.750. In addition, the freshmen class has improved over the season and already accounted for some of the team's top scores.
2010 MPSF Assistant Coach of the Year
Nelle Barriteau - Third Year - Air Force
Nelle Barriteau, a former Academy gymnast, is in the middle of her third season as an assistant coach for the Falcons. Barriteau, who previously spent two years (2007-08) as the military assistant for Air Force, returned to the program in October 2009 as a full-time civilian assistant coach. This season, Barriteau has helped Air Force gymnasts set numerous career-best tallies, while the team has continually improved its overall performance.
