Hawaii Wins Longest Game in Team History

HAWAII (9-6 Overall/1-2 MPSF) defeated No. 3 UCLA for just the second time in program history, in a wild six-overtime home-opening win, 9-8. Monika Eggens scored her only goal as the sudden-victory game-winner in the sixth OT period, ending the longest game in UH history and one of the longest-ever in the MPSF. Carmen Eggens put away a game-high five goals and Serena Bredin tallied 16 stops in the cage. The Wahine is off this week.
STANFORD (16-1 Overall/2-0 MPSF) picked up an MPSF victory, 11-2 at home over San Diego State last Friday, as freshman Annika Dries poured in a hat trick. Amber Oland and Kate Baldoni combined for 13 saves in goal, and posted a second half shutout. Saturday, the Cardinal made it four straight quarters without allowing a goal, in a 10-4 win over UC Irvine. Stanford led 7-0 at the half. Sunday wins came at Davis against CS Bakersfield (17-1) and UC Davis (11-1), as Kelly Eaton finished with 10 goals for the week. Stanford now breaks for finals.
USC (12-1 Overall/2-0 MPSF) won its second conference game with a 7-4 home decision over California last Saturday, extending its win streak to 10. The Trojans were up 5-1 by halftime. Joelle Bekhazi scored three goals and freshman Patricia Jancso added two in the first half. Goalkeeper Tumua Anae collected 13 saves. USC is off until March 25 when returning home for a non-conference game with Long Beach State.
SAN JOSE STATE (9-8 Overall/1-2 MPSF) defeated San Diego State in a conference home game this past Saturday, 7-5, as Bridget McKee and Adrianna Vogt each scored twice. The Spartans trailed 4-2 at the half. Goalkeeper Meagan Minson picked up a season-high 13 saves. Sunday, San Jose State made it three straight wins with a 7-4 outcome over UC Irvine. Vogt and Dani Curran had a hat trick and Minson totaled 12 saves.
ARIZONA STATE (11-5 Overall/0-0 MPSF) won all five games at the Cal Lutheran Tournament this past weekend, as Nikki Unbehaun scored in each game and totaled 11 goals. ASU defeated CS Northridge (10-8), CS East Bay (20-2), Whittier (16-1), CS Monterey Bay (12-4), and Pomona-Pitzer (17-6). Lynlee Smith scored four goals vs. CSUMB and Amanda Young recorded 11 saves in goal vs. CSUN. The Sun Devils' MPSF opener is Saturday (Mar. 13) at UCLA, followed by a visit to Long Beach State Sunday (Mar. 14).
UCLA (12-5 Overall/1-1 MPSF) came up short in six overtime periods at No. 5 Hawaii in MPSF action Saturday, 9-8, on the heels of an eight-OT victory over Cal, Feb. 28. Kelly Easterday tallied four goals and Caitlin Dement accumulated 14 saves in the Bruin cage. UCLA visits UC Irvine in non-conference Thursday (Mar. 11), before MPSF resumes at home with Arizona State Saturday (Mar. 13). The Bruins edged the Sun Devils, 7-6, on Feb. 7.
CALIFORNIA (14-5 Overall/2-2 MPSF) dropped a 7-4 MPSF game at top-ranked USC Saturday, though won two in non-conference at the Cal Lutheran Invitational, 16-4 over Occidental and 12-4 over Cal Baptist. Emily Csikos recorded a hat trick in each of the wins. The Bears are at San Diego State Saturday (Mar. 13) for another MPSF game, and will remain there for the Aztec Invitational to face Princeton, Marist, and Maryland.
SAN DIEGO STATE (10-7 Overall/0-2 MPSF) dropped a pair of conference games at No. 2 Stanford (11-2) and No. 7 San Jose State (7-5). Meaghan Poland matched a game-high of two goals vs. the Spartans. The Aztecs play an MPSF home game against California Saturday (Mar. 13), prior to the SDSU Invitational, when facing Wagner, Maryland, and CS Bakersfield over the weekend.

Stanford senior driver Kelly Eaton (Menlo Park, CA/Menlo-Atherton HS) scored 10 goals in four games (2.50 GPG), as the Cardinal defeated No. 14 San Diego State in the MPSF, No. 13 UC Irvine, CS Bakersfield, and No. 15 UC Davis.
