Stanford Visits Hawaii -- Both Have Won Nine Straight

CALIFORNIA (21-5 Overall/4-2 MPSF) won an MPSF road game this past Saturday, 14-11 at Arizona State. The Bears raced out to a fast start, taking a 6-1 first quarter lead. Meghan Corso recorded three goals, leading nine different scorers for Cal. Stephanie Peckham tallied 15 saves in the cage. Third place Cal takes a seven-game win streak to the Santa Clara Tournament Sunday (Apr. 11).
USC (17-1 Overall/3-0 MPSF) won three non-conference home games, 15-6 over Brown, 18-6 over CS Northridge, and 18-4 over CS Bakersfield. Goalkeeper Tumua Anae combined for 31 saves in the three wins, while Joelle Bekhazi scored 10 goals during the week. The Trojans return to the MPSF Saturday (Apr. 10) at Arizona State, which is the first meeting of the year between the two teams.
SAN DIEGO STATE (18-11 Overall/0-5 MPSF) won a Friday doubleheader at home over Brown, 10-5, and Cal Baptist, 10-9. Freshman Amber Pezzola combined for seven goals, including five against the Bears. Melissa de Jonckheere and Meaghan Poland scored three goals apiece against the Lancers, as the Aztecs erased a two-goal halftime deficit. Goalkeeper Kelli Campoli totaled 18 stops on the day. The Aztecs' home finale is Saturday (Apr. 10) vs. UCLA in MPSF action. In the only other meeting this year on opening day in Ann Arbor, SDSU won in OT, 7-6.
ARIZONA STATE (15-10 Overall/0-5 MPSF) came up short at home to California Saturday, 14-11 in a conference game. Junior Sarah Harris put away a game-high five goals, leading a total of 16 scorers in the game. The Sun Devils stay home Saturday (Apr. 10) for another MPSF contest against top-ranked USC.
HAWAII (15-6 Overall/3-2 MPSF) has won nine straight and hosts first-place Stanford Sunday (Apr. 11). Two weeks ago, Monika Eggens recorded 23 goals on the road, beginning with three to help solidify an MPSF win at San Diego State on Mar. 24, 9-6. The Rainbow Wahine would go on to win five more that week, 10-8 in OT at UC San Diego, 9-5 at Arizona State, and 23-3 over Concordia, 12-6 vs. Cal Baptist, and 11-4 over Santa Clara in Tempe, AZ. Eggens scored four in the MPSF win vs. ASU and took over the lead in conference scoring.
STANFORD (19-1 Overall/4-0 MPSF) was off last week and takes nine straight wins to Hawaii Sunday (Apr. 11). The Cardinal is coming off two wins in Southern California, 11-6 at UCLA to stay undefeated in MPSF action and 9-1 at Long Beach State. Melissa Seidemann posted four goals and Amber Oland collected 10 saves in goal at UCLA.
UCLA (15-6 Overall/3-2 MPSF) returns to action Thursday (Apr. 8) for non-conference play at Loyola Marymount. Sophomore KK Clark put away a game-high three goals Mar. 28 in a 12-5 MPSF home win over San Jose State. Caitlin Dement recorded eight saves in the cage. Priscilla Orozco scored twice in that game, as well as in the Mar. 27 loss to Stanford. The Bruins are in a three-way tie for third.
SAN JOSE STATE (14-10 Overall/2-3 MPSF) did not compete last week, and returns to the pool Saturday (Apr. 10) in the Santa Clara Tournament, when taking on UC San Diego and CS Bakersfield. Junior Adriana Vogt has been lighting up the scoreboard, moving up to fourth in the conference with 47 goals (1.96 GPG).
MEGHAN CORSO MPSF MIKASA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
California senior driver Meghan Corso (Thousand Oaks, CA/Agoura HS) recorded a hat trick in a 14-11 conference win at No. 9 Arizona State. Corso returns to the top-25 in MPSF scoring with 31 goals on the year (1.19 GPG), while the Bears have won seven straight games and enter the week in third place.

SARAH HARRIS MPSF MIKASA NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK
Arizona State junior transfer attacker Sarah Harris (Cape Town, S. Africa/Univ. of Pacific) poured in a game-high five goals in the 14-11 loss to third-ranked California. She owns 32 goals on the year (1.28 GPG), ranking 19th in the MPSF.
