Stanford Ends Postseason Run with NCAA Appearance

# 14 STANFORD (5-1 MPSF, 15-6 overall) entered its second NCAA Tournament appearance with four straight postseason wins, including three in the MPSF Tournament and an NCAA Play-In victory, before the season ended at No. 5 seed James Madison last Saturday in the opening round, 9-8. Leslie Foard equaled a game-high of three goals, while Catherine Swanson scored twice. Lauren Schmidt and Sarah Flynn also posted two points apiece on one goal and one assist. The Cardinal ends the year 15-6 overall, including a sixth consecutive MPSF Championship.
# 17 DENVER (6-0 MPSF, 13-5 overall) hosted the MPSF Championship Tournament and finished second with a semifinal win over No. 5 seed UC Davis, 14-9. Ali Flury, Kara Secora, and Bonnie Wells all delivered hat tricks in the win, while Lexi Sanders dished three assists. Flury caused six turnovers in the win and scored another hat trick in the finals, en route to all-tournament honors with Sanders and goalkeeper Ashley Harman, who totaled 21 saves.
CALIFORNIA (3-3 MPSF, 8-10 overall) won its MPSF quarterfinal contest against No. 6 seed St. Mary's, 20-11. Vail Horn tied a 2010 season-high in the conference with seven goals, while Alyse Kennedy and Tara Arolla posted five points each. Arolla was joined by goalkeeper Allie Shropshire on the all-tournament team, who picked up the second-most single-game saves in the MPSF this year with 17 against Stanford in the semifinal.
UC DAVIS (3-3 MPSF, 11-6 overall) reached the MPSF Tournament semifinal with a quarterfinal win over No. 4 seed Oregon, 13-11, avenging the home conference loss to the Ducks. Christina Corsa recorded seven points on five goals and two assists in the win. Gina Hoffmire put away four goals. Molly Lapolla tallied a hat trick in the semifinal against Denver. Alyssa Cranska was named to the all-tournament team with 13 saves in that game.
OREGON (3-3 MPSF, 7-11 overall) dropped its MPSF quarterfinal game to No. 5 seed UC Davis, 13-11, as all-tournament Alex Breiner as well as Dom Christiansen each tallied hat tricks. Breiner added a pair of assists for five points. Jess Drummond and Lara Bennett caused three turnovers apiece.
ST. MARY'S (1-5 MPSF, 4-12 overall) ended the season with a 20-11 quarterfinal loss to California. Senior midfielder Abbie Coleman was named to the all-tournament team with three points on one goal and two assists. Mariah Walk recorded four goals and Caroline Mahony and Maggie Schwab scored two apiece.
FRESNO STATE (0-6 MPSF, 0-14 overall) ended its season following a 16-1 quarterfinal loss to No. 2 seed Stanford. Margaret Wolford was assisted by Sara Weber in the first half. All-tournament goalkeeper Diana Aguilar collected 16 saves.
