MPSF Competes at UC Irvine Invitational

USC (6-1 Overall/1-0 MPSF) won two on the road, 14-10 at Long Beach State Friday and 11-8 at San Diego State in conference action Saturday. Kristen Dronberger, Patricia Jancso, Sarah Van Norman, and Dominique Sardo all scored twice in the MPSF opener. The Trojans meet UC San Diego Saturday morning (Feb. 26) at the UC Irvine Invitational, followed by the Aztecs or the host Anteaters in the afternoon. Two games are also played on Sunday.

CALIFORNIA (11-2 Overall/2-0 MPSF) earned another conference win, defeating San Jose State on the road, 11-6 this past Saturday. Cal went up 4-0 in the first quarter and was never caught. Emily Csikos tallied a hat trick, while Elizabeth McLaren, Dana Ochsner, and Katie Monton each scored twice. The Bears face UC Santa Barbara in Irvine Saturday, and either Hawaii or CS Northridge later that day.

STANFORD (9-0 Overall/0-0 MPSF) got off to a 3-0 first quarter lead, and was up 10-2 at the half, on its way to a 15-4 win at Pacific on Sunday. The top-ranked and undefeated Cardinal competes at the UC Irvine Invitational this weekend, taking on CS Bakersfield Saturday (Feb. 26), followed by either San Jose State or Arizona State in the afternoon. There are also two games to be played Sunday (Feb. 27).

UCLA (13-1 Overall/0-0 MPSF) held off UC Irvine 7-5 at home Saturday, as Priscilla Orozco poured in a career-high five goals. Goalkeeper Caitlin Dement collected eight saves. The Bruins' MPSF opener is at home Thursday (Feb. 24) against Hawaii, before competing at the UCI Invitational over the weekend, meeting UC Davis and either Loyola Marymount or Long Beach State Saturday.

SAN DIEGO STATE (8-3 Overall/0-1 MPSF) Leanne Ford recorded a hat trick and Kelly Campoli had 12 saves in the loss to USC. Amber Pezzolla added two goals. The Aztecs meet the host UC Irvine Saturday morning, with another possible game against the Trojans in game two of the invitational.

SAN JOSE STATE (7-7 Overall/0-2 MPSF) dropped an 11-6 MPSF decision to California at home Saturday, as Adriana Vogt and Katie Buzzetta each scored a pair of goals. The Spartans face Arizona State in the morning of day one in Irvine, and follows up with a game against Stanford or CS Bakersfield.

ARIZONA STATE (2-4 Overall/0-1 MPSF) was off last week, last in action when Kelsey White poured in a career-high four goals at California (Feb. 12) and Mariam Salloum posted a career-high five in a 16-7 win at CS Monterey Bay (Feb. 13). The Sun Devils face San Jose State and either Stanford or CS Bakersfield Saturday in Irvine.

HAWAII (3-2 Overall/1-0 MPSF) visits UCLA Thursday (Feb. 24) in MPSF action. Hawaii then meets CS Northridge and either California or UCSB in Irvine Saturday afternoon. The Rainbow Wahine claimed their conference opener, 12-9 at San Jose State on Feb. 3, as Leonie Van Der Molen and Monika Eggens each recorded a hat trick.

PRISCILLA OROZCO MPSF MIKASA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
UCLA senior Priscilla Orozco (Commerce, CA/Montebello HS) repeats this honor from last week after scoring a career-high five goals to lead the Bruins past No. 11 UC Irvine, 7-5, in a non-conference home game on Saturday. Orozco's five goals push her team-leading season total to 30. The Commerce native has scored in each of UCLA's 14 games, helping the Bruins open their season with a 13-1 record. KALEY DODSON MPSF MIKASA NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK
Stanford freshman Kaley Dodson (Seal Beach, CA/Los Alamitos HS) continued her fine freshman season, scoring two goals in the Cardinal's 15-4 win at No. 19 Pacific, making it nine in a row to start the year for the team. Dodson's goals helped the Cardinal build a 10-2 cushion by halftime as Stanford cruised to the win.
