Stanford Stays Unbeaten with Four Wins at UC Irvine

STANFORD (13-0 Overall/0-0 MPSF) stayed undefeated with four wins at this past weekend's UC Irvine Invitational. The top-ranked Cardinal took out CS Bakersfield (19-3) and Arizona State (15-7) on day one, followed by Hawaii in the semifinals (10-5) and USC in the championship (9-6). Annika Dries scored four goals in the finals as did Kim Krueger in the semis. Kate Baldoni collected 14 saves vs. USC. The Cardinal MPSF opener is at San Diego State Saturday (Mar. 5) and will then play a non-conference game at Long Beach State Sunday (Mar. 6).

USC (9-2 Overall/1-0 MPSF) took three of four at UCI and was the invitational runner-up. The Trojans came out on top over UC San Diego (14-5), San Diego State (11-3), and UCLA (9-8). Dominique Sardo tallied a hat trick in the semifinals against the Bruins, as did Nadia Dan vs. the Tritons and Chelsea Silvers vs. the Aztecs. Flora Bolonyai picked up 13 saves in the SDSU win. USC visits California Saturday (Mar. 5) in an MPSF game.

CALIFORNIA (14-3 Overall/2-0 MPSF) won both of its Sunday games at UCI, 15-7 over Arizona State and 9-7 over Loyola Marymount to finish fifth. Dana Ochsner tallied four goals and Stephanie Peckham picked up 10 saves in goal vs. the Lions. Peckham picked up 11 saves and Breda Vosters scored four vs. the Sun Devils. The Bears also defeated UCSB on day one, 10-6. Cal hosts USC in a conference game Saturday (Mar. 5).

HAWAII (6-4 Overall/2-0 MPSF) won three of five games last week, including an MPSF overtime win at UCLA, 8-6. The Rainbow Wahine also claimed Saturday games in Irvine over CS Northridge (11-6) and California (6-5). Carmen Eggens recorded a hat trick in the conference win, including the overtime game-winner, while goalkeeper Serena Bredin tallied 14 saves. Hawaii is off this week.

UCLA (16-3 Overall/0-1 MPSF) picked up a Saturday win over Loyola Marymount (6-5) and avenged its conference loss to Hawaii with a 7-6 Sunday outcome. Priscilla Orozco put away 12 goals in four tournament games, including four in the third place win over the Rainbow Wahine. Goalkeeper Sami Hill totaled 37 saves and limited opponents to 5.5 goals per game over four outings. The Bruins travel to Arizona State for MPSF action Saturday (Mar. 5).

SAN JOSE STATE (10-8 Overall/0-2 MPSF) senior Adriana Vogt combined for 16 goals in a 3-1 Spartan record at UCI, including a career-high seven goals in a day two win over Long Beach State (10-8). The Spartans also knocked off UC Santa Barbara (11-9) and CS Bakersfield (11-8). Freshman Timi Molnar totaled eight goals in the invitational, including a hat trick vs. UCSB. San Jose State is off this week.

ARIZONA STATE (4-6 Overall/0-1 MPSF) won two games at UCI, both by one goal, edging San Jose State (9-8) and San Diego State (10-9). Annabelle Carter and Mariam Salloum each recorded a hat trick to beat the Aztecs for seventh place. Shannon Haas poured in four goals in the first day win over the Spartans. The Sun Devils compete in their home openers Saturday, facing UCLA in an MPSF game followed by Cal Baptist.

SAN DIEGO STATE (9-6 Overall/0-1 MPSF) came away with an 8-4 victory over the host UC Irvine in its first invitational game last Saturday. The Aztecs pitched a shutout in the first half, as goalkeeper Kelly Campoli went on to post 10 saves, on her way to 45 saves over the four games. Leanne Ford put away hat tricks against LMU and ASU on Sunday. Stanford and UC Irvine visit the Aquaplex this weekend.

PRISCILLA OROZCO MPSF MIKASA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
UCLA senior Priscilla Orozco (Commerce, CA/Montebello HS) becomes a rare third-straight week honoree, following a 12-goal UCI Invitational, and a 13-goal week. She tallied five in the invitational semifinals and four in the third place win. Also Nominated: Amber Oland/Kate Baldoni (STAN); Adriana Vogt (SJSU); Mariam Salloum (ASU); Leonie Van Der Molen (UH)

SAMI HILL MPSF MIKASA NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK
UCLA freshman Sami Hill (Santa Barbara, CA/Dos Pueblos HS) totaled 37 saves in four games (14 quarters) at the UCI Invitational over the weekend, limiting the opposition to 5.5 goals per game played. Hill tied her career-high with 12 saves in the semifinals vs. USC before registering eight saves in a 7-6 win over Hawai'i for third place.
