Sooners Succeed at Winter Cup

#4 OKLAHOMA sophomore Jake Dalton claimed the two-day 2011 Winter Cup all-around title (176.250), the second straight Sooner to do so (Chris Brooks, 2010). As a result, one-third of the United States National Team still hails from the Oklahoma program. Dalton won vault (16.550) and floor titles (16.150) along the way in Las Vegas. Alex Naddour accumulated an all-around of 170.750, finishing fourth. Steven Legendre was fourth on vault with a combined 31.750. The Sooners visit Nebraska Sunday (Feb. 13) as team competition resumes.

#10 NEBRASKA won all but one event in its last team competition against Air Force, led by Andreas Hofer's three individual titles. He won the all-around (85.450), floor (14.750), and high bar (14.450). Anthony Ingrelli claimed his second straight title on rings (14.450), while Eric Schryver added a top horse routine (14.900) as did Bear Danley on parallel bars (14.500). The Huskers host Oklahoma and Illinois-Chicago Sunday.

#12 AIR FORCE was led by sophomore Troy Brown during prelims at the Winter Cup last Wednesday, placing third on high bar with a career-high (13.650), and fourth on vault (15.100) and parallel bars (career-high 13.750). Senior Nash Mills turned in a pair of seventh place finishes, scoring a 13.300 on rings and 12.950 on high bar. Sophomore James Okamoto recorded a top-10 finish in his Las Vegas debut, placing ninth on horse (12.200). The Falcon team is next in action Feb. 18 at Minnesota.

#1 STANFORD Tim Gentry and Josh Dixon recorded a pair of top-eight finishes at last week's Las Vegas Winter Cup. Dixon placed sixth all-around (168.800), hitting a second place floor total (15.050, 15.450) and sixth place vault (15.250, 15.600). Gentry came in eighth overall after two days (167.500), finishing second on the rings (14.750, 15.050). John Martin was fifth on horse (13.500, 14.350) while freshman Chris Turner rounded out the top-10 in that event (13.400, 13.300). Stanford competes in the Gold Country Classic Saturday (Feb. 12).

#2 CALIFORNIA sophomore Donothan Bailey finished sixth (14.650) on horse in his Winter Cup debut, while tying for sixth on rings with a two-day total of 27.900. Sophomore Steven Lacombe finished tied for eighth on rings with a combined 27.650. Junior Glen Ishino, in spite of sitting out the final round of the event, has earned placement on the US Senior National Team. The Bears meet Stanford for the third time this year Saturday (Feb. 12) in Oakland.

Oklahoma sophomore Jake Dalton (Reno, NV) won the 2011 Winter Cup all-around title, with a two-day total of 176.250, thus regaining his spot on the United States Senior National Team. He claimed a pair of titles on the second night, hitting a 16.150 on floor and 16.550 on vault, en route to the top all-around and an 88.150 on night two.
