CALIFORNIA (16-3 Overall/4-0 MPSF) picked up another impressive conference win, 7-3 at UCLA last Saturday, as goalkeeper Stephanie Peckham recorded 12 saves. Emily Csikos and Breda Vosters scored two goals apiece, with the latter scoring back-to-back in the fourth quarter to provide some breathing room from a 4-2 game. The Bears step away from the MPSF this week, as Harvard, UC Davis, and George Washington visit Berkeley over the weekend.
SAN JOSE STATE (14-8 Overall/1-2 MPSF) swept through the San Diego State Invitational to reach a seven-game win streak. The Spartans took out San Diego State (11-8) in a conference game, CS Northridge (14-11), Princeton (9-8), and Pacific (8-7) over the three-day event. Adriana Vogt sparked the MPSF win with four goals, a game in which SJSU broke open a 7-7 fourth quarter score. She added six vs. CSUN, and has reached an SJSU record 213 for her career, breaking Juliet Moss' total of 206. The Spartans host Harvard Wednesday (Mar. 16).
USC (11-3 Overall/2-1 MPSF) claimed a 12-3 MPSF home win over Arizona State last Friday, and followed up with a 14-4 outcome over UC Irvine one day later, to extend the home win streak to 21. Four players scored twice vs. ASU, a game in which the Trojans raced out to a 5-0 lead. Patricia Jancso put away four goals and Dominique Sardo a hat trick vs. UCI. Flora Bolonyai combined for 20 stops in the cage over the two wins. MPSF resumes at Hawaii Friday.
HAWAII (10-4 Overall/2-0 MPSF) won all four games at the San Diego State Invitational, ousting Indiana (3-2), CS Northridge (9-5), Wagner (14-7), and Princeton (8-6). Sara Gralitzer collected 13 saves vs. Princeton and 12 vs. Wagner. Monika Eggens scored five vs. Wagner and three vs. CSN, while Carmen Eggens delivered a hat trick in each of those games. The Rainbow Wahine host USC Friday (Mar. 18) in a conference game.
SAN DIEGO STATE (12-9 Overall/0-3 MPSF) split its four invitational games, defeating Wagner (18-6) and CS Northridge (17-7) and falling to San Jose State (11-8) and Indiana (4-3). Kelly Campoli picked up 16 saves vs. CSN and 13 vs. IU. Meaghan Poland scored four vs. Wagner and Kimmy Keach had a hat trick vs. SJSU and CSN. The Aztecs host Maryland and Whittier in a Sunday (Mar. 20) doubleheader.
ARIZONA STATE (8-8 Overall/0-3 MPSF) recovered from the loss at USC to sweep three games at the Claremont Convergence last Saturday. The Sun Devils defeated Colorado State (10-8), Long Beach State (15-10), and Redlands (18-4) to even up their record. Sarah Harris and Shannon Haas combined for 10 goals apiece, while Annabelle Carter added nine. Ianetta Hutchinson tallied a career-high 14 saves vs. the 49ers. ASU hosts top-ranked Stanford Saturday (Mar. 19).
UCLA (18-4 Overall/1-2 MPSF) came up short at home this past Saturday, 7-3 to first place California. Three Bruins' scored once and Caitlin Dement picked up seven saves in goal. The Bruins are off this week, next in action Mar. 26 at Stanford. Four of the five remaining games on the schedule will count in the conference standings.
STANFORD (15-0 Overall/1-0 MPSF) was off last week, and competes in MPSF action at Arizona State Saturday (Mar. 19). The Cardinal posted a 12-4 win its March 5 MPSF opener at San Diego State, as Annika Dries tallied a hat trick. On Mar. 6, Stanford improved to 15-0 with an 11-3 win at Long Beach State, as Alyssa Lo poured in three.
ADRIANA VOGT MPSF MIKASA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
San Jose State senior Adriana Vogt (Menlo Park, CA/Sacred Heart Prep HS) accumulated 15 goals in four wins at the San Diego State Invitational this past weekend, becoming the all-time scoring leader in Spartan water polo history. She poured in four apiece in a conference win over SDSU and against Princeton, and six against CS Northridge, extending her career total to 213 goals. Vogt passed Juliet Moss' total of 206. FLORA BOLONYAI MPSF MIKASA NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK
USC freshman goalkeeper Flora Bolonyai (Budapest, Hungary) combined for 20 saves in two games as the Trojans defeated Arizona State (12-3) and UC Irvine (14-4). She stopped 11 shots in the MPSF win over the Sun Devils, while allowing just three goals to a team who averages over nine.
