UC Davis Repeats as MPSF Champion

UC DAVIS defended its MPSF Championship with a team score of 192.975 last Saturday at Air Force, three quarters of a point ahead of the host Falcons. Individual 2011 titles for the Aggies belong to Katie Yamamura on vault (9.90), Jessica Rea and Marcy Miller on uneven bars (9.80), and Miller all-around (38.850). Miller also shared third-place on beam with Michelle Hurlock (9.75). Anna Shumaker tied for second on vault (9.775). Miller and Shumaker have earned individual at-large bids to the NCAA Regional in Corvallis, OR, on Apr. 2.
AIR FORCE was this year's host of the MPSF Championships and finished second with a team score of 192.225. The Falcons posted silver and bronze individual finishes all-around with Brittany Dutton (38.575) and a career-high from Jen Larsen (38.275). Dutton would also share the beam title (9.775) and take second on floor (9.725), along with being named the 2011 MPSF Gymnast of the Year. Lisa Wong concluded her career with sharing top beam honors with Dutton, as each nailed a career-high. Air Force combined for a 48.575 on beam, its best team effort of 2011.
SEATTLE PACIFIC finished third with its highest team score of the year (191.250), one-tenth better than its previous high set on Jan. 28. Brianna Steigauf shared second place on floor (9.725), while Samantha Taylor came up with a third-place uneven bars routine (9.75). Sherah Veron tied for fourth on vault (9.75) and tied for fifth on floor (9.675). Laura Willis and Texie Gregory also posted top-10 results by sharing eighth on bars (9.625). Taylor and Corrine Wise were the top Falcons on beam, tying for 10th (9.65). Aditi Kulkarni tied for seventh on floor (9.625).
ALASKA-ANCHORAGE accumulated a team score of 190.475 at the MPSF Championships. The Seawolves were led by Kelsey Fullerton's floor title (9.825) and Shakea Sanders' runner-up vault effort (9.775). The vault was a strong apparatus for Alaska in the meet, placing three in the top-seven. Kaelei Spoor was sixth on beam (9.725). Finally, Maria Puricelli wrapped up her career with a fourth-place uneven bars display (9.725), finishing amongst the top-three season averages all-time at UAA in that event.
