#1 OKLAHOMA recorded the highest team score in the NCAA this year (366.400) in a tri-meet win over Illinois (359.100) and Penn State (356.750) last Saturday. The outcome marks the fourth time in the last seven years the Sooners have completed an unbeaten regular season. Steven Legendre claimed the all-around (91.250) and tied for the top spot on high bar (15.350). Jake Dalton tied the all-time program record on vault (16.700), while a new standard was set as a team on that event (64.900). Oklahoma next competes on Apr. 2 at the MPSF Championships, vying for its 11th conference title in the last 13 years.
#11 NEBRASKA nailed its highest team score of the year (354.500) in a tri-meet win over Iowa (351.800) and Minnesota (348.600) on Senior Night in Lincoln. Freshman Wyatt Aycock accumulated six career-highs on the evening, including the all-around (88.600), horse (14.50), rings (14.20), vault (16.00), p-bars (15.10), and high bar (14.40). His vault routine was the highest event score for any Husker this year. Nebraska combined for its best floor score of 2011 (58.50). Eric Schryver claimed the horse title with a career-effort (15.50), as did Anthony Ingrelli on rings with a season-high (15.40). The Huskers next compete Apr. 2 at the MPSF Meet.
#9 AIR FORCE posted five all-time Academy records last Sunday in a dual with the University of Washington Club squad. The team total (347.500), along with the floor (59.600), rings (59.400), p-bars (57.100) and Colton Wulf's floor (15.400) all moved in to the top spot in the program's record books. Nash Mills claimed three titles, on bars (14.400) and high bar (14.000), as well as a career-high on rings (15.300). Nick Owen captured the horse for the second straight week (14.200). Ben Zaiser's recorded a career-high tying 15.600 on vault for the event win. The Falcons look to defend their team title at the 2011 USAG Championships Friday (Mar. 25).
#2 STANFORD was off last week, and competes on Friday (Mar. 25) when visiting California. The Cardinal recorded their second highest score of the season in a 359.000-347.600 dual victory at Nebraska on Mar. 5. Josh Dixon won the all-around (88.600), one day after tallying a winning total of 87.400 in a quad meet in Chicago, vs. No. 3 Illinois, Air Force, and Illinois-Chicago. He also won both floor titles (15.500 and 15.600) and vault title in the quad (15.900). The 88.600 dual all-around score was the sixth highest in the nation this year.
#4 CALIFORNIA was off last week and returns to the gym Friday (Mar. 25) when it hosts Stanford. Last time out on Mar. 12, the Bears claimed all six events for the first time this year, in a smooth dual win over No. 10 Iowa (353.350-336.950). Dennis Mannhart won the all-around (86.500), while Kyle Bunthuwong posted gold results on horse (15.250), parallel bars (15.200), and high bar (15.600). Daniel Culpepper earned the floor victory (14.900) as did Jeff Langenstein on vault (16.250). Steven Lacombe (14.950) led a top-three sweep on rings.
STEVEN LEGENDRE - MPSF GYMNAST OF THE WEEK
Oklahoma senior Steven Legendre (Port Jefferson, NY) won titles on high bar (15.35) and all-around (91.250) against top-five Illinois and Penn State, leading OU to the highest team score (366.400) in the NCAA this year. Legendre added a second-place floor (15.85) and was amongst the top-five on p-bars (14.6), vault (15.95), and rings (15.15) in his last home meet. The Sooners completed an unbeaten regular season.
