Stanford Remains Unbeaten, UC Davis Wins Fifth Straight

#9 STANFORD (1-0 MPSF, 6-0 Overall) improved to 6-0 by winning its first two games away from Palo Alto, 17-5 at Ohio State and 15-7 vs. Canisius on neutral turf in Columbus, Ohio. Emilie Boeri recorded a first half hat trick on her way to four goals and one assist vs. the Buckeyes. Goalkeeper Annie Read collected 10 saves while allowing just four goals in 51 minutes. Leslie Foard delivered three goals and one assist in each game. Stanford breaks for finals.
UC DAVIS (1-1 MPSF, 5-1 Overall) swept through all three road games this past week in extending its win streak to five games. The Aggies averaged over 18 goals in taking out Central Connecticut State (19-11), Temple (15-7) and Detroit (21-11). Elizabeth Datino and Gina Hoffmire put away six and five goals respectively, while Christina Corsa dished five assists in the 21-goal outburst. Corsa delivered five goals and Hannah Mirza a hat trick, as UCD broke a 5-5 tie at the half against the Owls. Hoffmire scored a career-high seven vs. CCSU.
DENVER (1-0 MPSF, 1-5 Overall) Kara Secora accumulated three groundballs, three goals, and four assists in a 20-7 MPSF home win over St. Mary's last Friday. Lauren Ciccomascolo added four goals and one assist in the home and conference opener, as well as the first victory for the Pioneers. Denver, who dropped a 13-3 outcome to No. 3 North Carolina Monday, stays home to face Vermont Wednesday (Mar. 9).
OREGON (1-0 MPSF, 3-2 Overall) split on the road this past week, recovering from a 15-13 loss at Louisville with a win at Cincinnati, 16-5. The Ducks used a 10-2 second half on Sunday to break the game open. Alex Breiner contributed a season-high five points on two goals and three assists. Jana Drummond and Nikki Puszcz, meanwhile, tallied four goals apiece. Drummond, Breiner, and Bina Barrett posted four points each against the Cardinals. The Ducks return home to face William & Mary Friday (Mar. 11).
ST. MARY'S (0-2 MPSF, 0-4 Overall) dropped a pair of contests in Denver, 20-7 to the host Pioneers in a conference game and 19-11 against Vermont in neutral territory. Juliet Munroe and Holly Hayes each scored twice against Denver, while Mariah Walk caused four turnovers. Walk matched a game-high four goals vs. Vermont and Jillian Chong posted three goals and two assists. The Gaels return to MPSF play at Fresno State Thursday (Mar. 10).
FRESNO STATE (0-3 MPSF, 0-4 Overall) came up just short of its first win, a 9-7 home opening loss to Bryant University on Monday. Amanda Cross put away a game-high four goals while Katie Wilbur picked up nine saves in goal. MPSF action continues as Fresno State hosts St. Mary's Thursday (Mar. 10).
CALIFORNIA (2-0 MPSF, 3-2 Overall) was off last week and visits No. 2 Northwestern Friday (Mar. 11). On Feb. 27, junior Tara Arolla posted career and game-highs of five goals and seven points in a 14-10 win at Davidson. Cal never trailed in the road game, recovering from an 8-6 defeat at Longwood. Vail Horn added four goals and Megan Takacs a hat trick, while goalkeeper Allie Shropshire collected nine saves in the victory.
LESLIE FOARD MPSF PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Stanford senior midfielder Leslie Foard (Cincinnati, OH/Mariemont HS) led a pair of wins over Ohio State 17-5 and Canisius 15-7, both games being played in Columbus. Foard hat a hat trick and an assist in each game to raise her team-leading goal and point totals to 16 and 22, respectively. She was 2-2 on free-position shots against Ohio State and scored her three goals on just three shots. Against Canisius, Foard was 2-3 on free-position chances and scored the three goals on eight shots. She also accumulated five draw controls on the weekend.
