STANFORD (23-0 Overall/7-0 MPSF) completed a perfect regular season, and second straight unbeaten year at Avery Aquatic Center and in the MPSF, with a 17-5 outcome over San Jose State. The top-seeded Cardinal meets No. 8 seed Arizona State Friday (Apr. 29) at 1:30 pm at San Jose State to begin its postseason run. Three-time player of the week Annika Dries is Stanford's top scoring threat, on 2.23 goals per game, third in the MPSF. Kate Baldoni (3.84) and Amber Oland (4.51) share goalkeeping duties, the top-two in MPSF goals-against average.
CALIFORNIA (21-4 Overall/6-1 MPSF) is seeded second, facing No. 7 seed San Diego State in quarterfinal action on Friday at 10 am. The Bears won the only regular season meeting, 15-12 in Berkeley on Apr. 9. The quarterfinal winner meets either San Jose State or Hawaii in Saturday's semifinal round. Goalkeeper Stephanie Peckham ranks second in the conference in saves per game (10.57 S/G). Breda Vosters owns a team-high 2.20 goals per game, fourth in the conference.
HAWAII (17-7 Overall/4-3 MPSF) won the goal differential tiebreaker over UCLA and USC and thus brings its best- ever No. 3 MPSF Tournament seed to San Jose, first facing the host No. 6 Spartans on Apr. 29 at 11:30 am. It is the first meeting between UH and SJSU since the opening game of the year on Feb. 3, won by the Rainbow Wahine, 12-9 in San Jose. The winner faces the Cal-San Diego State victor in the semifinals. Monika Eggens leads the conference with 2.63 goals per contest. Kelly McKee's 34 goals is the second most amongst MPSF Freshmen.
UCLA (22-5 Overall/4-3 MPSF) claimed the three-way tiebreaker over USC, but not Hawaii, resulting in the four seed this weekend. The Bruins face No. 5 USC in the quarterfinals at 3 pm, with the victor meeting the Stanford-Arizona State winner in Saturday's semifinals. Priscilla Orozco, who earlier this year became the first known player to be honored three straight weeks by the MPSF, has a team-best 48 goals (1.78 GPG, MPSF 7th). KK Clark follows with 42 goals (1.56 GPG, MPSF 12th).
USC (16-5 Overall/4-3 MPSF) is seeded fifth in the MPSF Quarterfinals, taking on No. 4 seed UCLA on Apr. 29. The Trojans claimed two of three meetings over the Bruins in the regular season, winning each non-conference game, before losing the MPSF contest. Kristen Dronberger has poured in 33 goals, ranking 11th in the conference with 1.57 per game. Patricia Jancso and Nadia Dan have each scored 31 (1.48 GPG, MPSF 13th).
SAN JOSE STATE (20-11 Overall/2-5 MPSF) is this year's host of the MPSF Tournament this weekend (Apr. 29-May 1) as the six seed. Its first match-up is against No. 3 seed Hawaii. The Spartans have three of the top-eight scoring leaders in the conference. Adriana Vogt, the all-time school leader, owns a conference-high 75 goals in 2011. Freshman Timi Molnar ranks fifth with 2.03 per game and Dani Curran eighth with a 1.77 scoring average.
SAN DIEGO STATE (20-12 Overall/1-6 MPSF) knocked off UC San Diego to complete its regular season last week, 15-7. Meaghan Poland is second on the team with 1.44 per game. Goalkeeper Kelly Campoli averages a conference-high 10.63 saves.
ARIZONA STATE (11-12 Overall/0-7 MPSF) is the eight seed in the conference tournament, meeting top seed Stanford Friday at 1:30 pm. MELISSA SEIDEMANN MPSF MIKASA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
