Stanford Claims Seventh Straight MPSF Championship

#6 STANFORD (6-0 MPSF, 16-2 Overall) sealed its seventh straight MPSF Championship this past weekend at St. Mary's, defeating No. 4 seed California (20-11) in the semifinals and No. 3 seed Oregon (12-10) in the finals. The Cardinal erased a 7-0 deficit to the Ducks half way through the first half, also scoring the final three goals in the last 10:38 of the game. Leslie Foard put away a hat trick and tournament MVP freshman goalkeeper Lyndsey Munoz had six saves and allowed only three goals in 45-plus minutes of work. Karen Nesbitt registered a semifinal hat trick.

OREGON (4-2 MPSF, 8-9 Overall) came within one game of reaching the NCAA Tournament, defeating No. 2 seed Denver in the semifinals, 7-4, before being edged in the finals to No. 1 seed Stanford. All-tournament honoree Jess Drummond posted a first half hat trick against the Cardinal. Alex Breiner posted had three goals and one assist in the win, while goalkeeper Caroline Federighi picked up nine saves while giving up just four.

DENVER (5-1 MPSF, 7-11 Overall) received one goal apiece from Lauren Ciccomascolo, Alex Befus, Annabelle Gilbride, and Becca Steinberg, while goalkeeper Ashley Harman collected eight saves, in last Friday's MPSF Semifinal loss to Oregon. Meredith Harris had an assist and three groundballs. The No. 2 seed Pioneers were represented by defender Kate Henrich and midfield Tulley Stapp on the all-tournament team.

CALIFORNIA (3-3 MPSF, 9-8 Overall) dropped a 20-11 MPSF Semifinal outcome to No. 1 seed Stanford. All-conference honoree Vail Horn as well as Hayley Olson chipped in hat tricks for the fourth-seeded Bears. Olson added an assist and four draw controls. First-team All-MPSF pick Tara Arolla dished two assist and picked up three draw controls. All-tournament selections were Olson and goalkeeper Allie Shropshire.
