Three MPSF Teams Sweep Opening Weekend

CALIFORNIA (4-0 Overall/0-0 MPSF) recorded four victories at the San Jose State Invitational to begin the season this past weekend, taking out UC Davis (13-5), Santa Clara (16-6), UC Santa Barbara (11-7), and Pacific (9-5). Kirstn Mase put away a single-game team high four goals vs. UCD. The Bears host a tournament this weekend, again playing four games against Pomona, Cal Baptist, Loyola Marymount, and CS Monterey Bay.

SAN JOSE STATE (3-0 Overall/0-0 MPSF) won all three games as it hosted the Spartan Invitational, defeating Pacific (11-3), UC Santa Barbara (12-8), and UC Davis (8-6). Timi Molnar combined for seven goals on Saturday against the Tigers and Gauchos. Katie Buzzetta recorded a first half hat trick Sunday vs. the Aggies. The Spartans head to California Invitational, taking on UC Davis and Cal Baptist Saturday (Jan. 28).

UCLA (3-0 Overall/0-0 MPSF) downed Colorado State (9-5), No. 10 Indiana (10-5), and the host No. 12 Michigan (10-8) to begin the season this past weekend at the Michigan Invitational. KK Clark and Becca Dorst poured in hat tricks and Caitlin Dement had 10 saves against the Rams. Clark posted four more goals against the Hoosiers and another three on day two vs. the Wolverines. UCLA next competes at the Stanford Invitational, Feb. 4-5.

STANFORD (0-0 Overall/0-0 MPSF) opens its season at the California Invitational Saturday (Jan. 28), facing Loyola Marymount in the morning and UC Davis in the afternoon. The Defending NCAA Champion and preseason top-ranked Cardinal return goalkeeper Kate Baldoni, along with Alyssa Lo (All-MPSF), Kaley Dodson (All-MPSF Newcomer), and Pallavi Menon from a 28-1 season.

USC (0-0 Overall/0-0 MPSF) begins its season Feb. 4-5 at the Stanford Invitational, taking on defending national champion Stanford on the first day. All-MPSF selections Patricia Jancso and Nadia Dan return from last year's third place and 19-win team, as do goalkeeper Flora Bolonyai., Dominique Sardo, Maddy Rosenthal, and Kaleigh Gilchrist.

SAN DIEGO STATE (0-0 Overall/0-0 MPSF) returns All-Americans Kelly Campoli in goal and Amber Pezzolla at utility from its 20-win season in 2011. Alex Ford, Leanne Ford, and Meaghan Poland are also back. The Aztecs open the 2012 campaign in College Park, Maryland this weekend, facing Marist and Wagner Friday (Jan. 27) and the host No. 20 Terrapins Saturday (Jan. 28).

ARIZONA STATE (0-0 Overall/0-0 MPSF) visits UC Santa Barbara Friday to begin the season, and then stays in Santa Barbara to compete in a weekend tournament. The Sun Devils made some noise in this year's MPSF Coaches' Poll, taking fifth for their best-ever projection. Mariam Salloum, Kelsey White, Shannon Haas Annabelle Carter, and goalkeeper Ianeta Hutchinson return from a team that picked up an MPSF quarterfinal win last year.

HAWAII (0-0 Overall/0-0 MPSF) opens the Maureen Cole Flanigan era at second-ranked California on Feb. 2, also an MPSF contest, before competing in the Stanford Invite, Feb. 4-5. Amarens Genee, Monique Wilson, Danielle Lewis, and Sivan Pardon return from last year's third place and 18-win team.

KK CLARK KAP 7 MPSF PLAYER OF THE WEEK
UCLA senior KK Clark (Atherton, CA/Sacred Heart Prep) scored a team-leading 10 goals in three games at the Michigan Invitational over the weekend, leading the Bruins to a 3-0 record to open their season. Clark recorded a hat trick against Colorado State and four goals vs. No. 10 Indiana on Saturday. She added a team-high three goals in a 10-8 win at No. 12 Michigan on Sunday. TIERA SCHROEDER KAP 7 MPSF NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK
California freshman Tiera Schroeder (Santa Barbara, CA/Dos Pueblos HS) scored three goals during the 4-0 Cal weekend at the Spartan Invitational, including her first collegiate goal in the 13-5 win over No. 16 UC Davis. She also scored one each in the wins over Pacific and No. 17 UC Santa Barbara. Also Nominated: Vicki Smith (SJSU)
