MPSF Heads to UC Irvine Invitational

UCLA (8-1 Overall/1-0 MPSF) KK Clark and Kelly Ronimus scored two goals apiece as the Bruins won their MPSF opener at San Diego State last Saturday, 9-4. Caitlin Dement stopped a season-high 12 shots in the cage. UCLA meets CS Northridge Saturday (Feb. 25) in the first of its four UC Irvine Invitational games over the weekend.
CALIFORNIA (12-2 Overall/2-0 MPSF) improved to 2-0 in the conference with an 8-3 home victory over San Jose State. Breda Vosters delivered a first quarter hat trick, while Elizabeth McLaren and Kirstn Smith added two goals apiece. The Bears draw UC Santa Barbara in their first UCI Invite game, followed by either Arizona State or UC Davis.
USC (7-1 Overall/0-0 MPSF) swept through the Cal Baptist Invitational, defeating Pacific (14-2), Fresno Pacific (27-1), Concordia (18-6), and the host Lancers (12-3) this past weekend. Nadia Dan scored a hat trick against Concordia and CBU, while Kaleigh Gilchrist had a career-high four goals against the host. The Trojans' MPSF opener is Thursday (Feb. 23) against Hawaii, and will then play Long Beach State to open the UCI Invite Saturday (Feb. 25).
STANFORD (8-0 Overall/1-0 MPSF) easily stayed unbeaten with a 13-4 outcome at Santa Clara this past Saturday. Freshman Catherine Carpenter scored the first two goals of the contest, igniting a six-goal first quarter. Freshman goalkeeper Emily Dorst made her first collegiate start, stopping six shots in a complete game. The Cardinal first meets UC San Diego in Irvine.
SAN DIEGO STATE (8-2 Overall/0-1 MPSF) Leanne Ford matched a game-high two goals in the home loss and conference opener with UCLA. Goalkeeper Kelly Campoli collected eight saves. The Aztecs take on San Jose State at UC Irvine in their first invitational game.
SAN JOSE STATE (6-5 Overall/0-2 MPSF) fell 8-3 at California last Saturday in its second conference game, as Meagan Minson registered 12 saves in the Spartan cage. San Jose State faces San Diego State Saturday to begin its UCI Invitational weekend.
ARIZONA STATE (12-0 Overall/0-0 MPSF) enters the UCI Invite coming off a bye week. ASU stayed unbeaten with four wins at the UC San Diego Invitational two weeks ago, capped off with an 8-4 championship over No. 6 UC Irvine. The 12-0 Sun Devils are off to their best start in the 11-year history of the program.
HAWAII (2-3 Overall/0-1 MPSF) has been off since it took fifth at the Stanford Invitational (Feb. 4-5) with wins over Michigan (7-5) and San Jose State (11-7). Emily Scott combined for an eight-goal week, en route to MPSF Newcomer of the Week honors. Hawaii travels to USC in an MPSF game Thursday, before facing Michigan again in Irvine.
BREDA VOSTERS KAP 7 MPSF PLAYER OF THE WEEK
California junior Breda Vosters (Winnipeg, MB, Canada/Grant Park HS) tallied all of her three goals in the first period as Cal jumped out to a 3-1 lead after the first eight minutes, eventually winning 8-3 on Feb. 18 over No. 8 San Jose State. Vosters owns 25 goals on the year (2.08 GPG), ranking fifth in the conference.

SAVANNAH FLETCHER KAP 7 MPSF NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK
USC freshman Savannah Fletcher (Malibu, CA/Agoura HS) scored seven goals in the first two games at the Cal Baptist Lancer Invitational, finishing with a team-high eight at the two-day event, as USC picked up four more wins to improve to 7-1 on the year. Fletcher went big in game one, punching in four to lead the Trojans to a 14-2 win over Pacific.
