UC Davis Hosts MPSF Championships

UC DAVIS Anna Shumaker scored a career-high on beam to finish in a tie for second place last Friday, while Tiana Montell compiled a personal-best 38.625 in the all-around, highlighting UC Davis' season-high 194.150 in a tri-meet at San Jose State. The Aggies totaled a 48.775 beam - second in school history, and another season-high (48.450) on bars. UC Davis is this year's MPSF Championship Meet host, Saturday (Mar. 24) in the Pavilion at 6 pm (PT). The Aggies, who top the MPSF with a 192.800 RQS, have won the last two conference titles. Katie Yamamura leads the MPSF all-around (38.925), as well as on vault (9.81) and bars (9.80). She is also third on floor (9.785).

AIR FORCE freshman Jessica Wallander turned in the Falcons' best individual finish on the night, tying for fifth on vault (9.775), as the team competed in a quad at No. 18 Arizona along with Bridgeport and Utah State. Air Force accumulated a 192.175, its second straight road score of better than 192. Wallander recorded an identical 9.775 mark on floor for a 10th-place tie. Jessica Hanner shares the top MPSF Balance Beam RQS (9.73), while Linnaea Hance ranks second on bars (9.745) and all-around (38.160).

SEATTLE PACIFIC Stephanie Wagner was the team's top scorer on bars and beam, as the Falcons topped the 190-point plateau for the eighth straight meet at No. 8 Oregon State last Friday. SPU scored 191.000, extending its longest streak of 190-plus performances since '04. Wagner hit a 9.725 on beam for seventh, and Shannon Escarra tied for sixth on floor (9.725). Sherah Veron leads all MPSF Gymnasts on floor (9.81), and ranks third on vault (9.75). The Falcons chalked up MPSF titles in 2006 and 2007.

ALASKA-ANCHORAGE is the last team other than UC Davis to win an MPSF Championship, achieving the feat in '09. In the last meets on Mar. 9 & 11, Morgan Cook averaged better than 38 points in the all-around, as UAA posted back-to-back season-high team scores vs. Michigan State. On the 9th, Cook came 0.025 shy of her career-high with a 37.750 all-around. On the 11th, she topped the 38-point mark for the first time with a 38.400 all-around (2nd), including personal-bests of 9.80 on beam and 9.775 on floor (3rd). Those marks led UAA to the 6th-best score in school history (192.625). Cook is 6th all-around in the MPSF (37.435)

MICHELLE HO MPSF GYMNAST OF THE WEEK
UC Davis junior Michelle Ho (Los Altos, CA) led the Aggies to their season-high uneven bars total (48.450) and their second-best balance beam rotation all-time (48.775), en route to a season-best 194.150 overall, in the tri-meet at San Jose State. Ho took fourth on floor (9.825), while adding a 9.80 beam and 9.725 bars routine.
