No. 1 Oklahoma Wins 12th MPSF Title

MPSF Men's Gymnastics Weekly Release - 4/10/12

#1 OKLAHOMA chalked up its 12th MPSF Championship, and 11th in the last 14 years, totaling 355.600 last Saturday in the four-team competition held at the Air Force Academy. Jake Dalton claimed four individual titles, including defense of his top all-around (89.250) from last year, and placed second in two other events. He posted a 15.300 on parallel bars and rings, and 15.200 on high bar, all good for gold finishes. OU posted its second-best parallel bars (59.200) and high bar (58.750) scores of the season. Dalton added a second-place vault (15.150) and floor (15.800). Troy Nitzky's career-high pommel horse in the final rotation (14.650) sealed the conference title. The Sooners are this year's host of the NCAA Championships, Apr. 19-21.

#3 STANFORD was the MPSF runner-up, accumulating a score of 352.100, ahead of third-place California and fourth-place Air Force. Eddie Penev was a double-event winner, nailing a gold routine on vault (15.350) and floor (15.850), on his way to a silver all-around (87.050). The Cardinal captured two of the top-four spots on pommel horse with Chris Turner finishing second (14.750) and Gabriel Alvarado fourth (14.600).James Fosco tied for first on still rings with a 15.300, and Cameron Forman was second on parallel bars (15.250).

#8 CALIFORNIA Donothan Bailey claimed the MPSF pommel horse title with a 14.900, also taking third on floor (15.200) and all-around (86.850). Steven Lacombe earned the bronze on rings (15.200), while Dennis Mannhart was fifth in the all-around (83.200) and on high bar (14.350). Jean Monteclaro tied for third on vault (14.700), while Jonathan Liu placed fourth on parallel bars (14.950). The Bears took third as a team (345.950).

#12 AIR FORCE amassed a team score of 335.950, as it served as this year's host of the MPSF Championship meet. Senior Devin Menefee earned the Falcons' best finish of the night in his final home competition, scoring a 14.900 to finish sixth and earning a trip to the awards podium. Menefee was one of two top-10 finishers on rings for Air Force, as sophomore Tyler Huebner tied for 10th with a 14.500. Junior James Okamoto and freshman Greg Chaput finished within the top-10 on horse, as Okamoto scored a 14.100 to place eighth and Chaput tallied a 14.000 to take 10th. Sophomore Ben Zaiser scored a 14.600 on vault to tie for 10th, while classmate Mac Ritchie earned the same placement on high bar with a score of 14.150.
