Oklahoma Takes Silver at NCAA Championships

MPSF Men's Gymnastics Weekly Release - 4/24/12

#1 OKLAHOMA finished in the top-two in the NCAA Championship Meet for the 10th time since 2001, placing second this year as it hosted the event last weekend. Jake Dalton claimed the all-around (91.000) and vault (15.550) titles, his third and fourth career individual national titles. He also took the silver on floor (15.750), parallel bars (15.500) and high bar (15.400). The Sooners posted their best vault rotation of the year (61.200). Oklahoma also chalked up its 12th MPSF Championship, and 11th in the last 14 years, totaling 355.600 on Apr. 7 in the four-team competition held at the Air Force Academy. Dalton claimed four individual titles, including defense of his top all-around (89.250) from last year, and placed second in two other events. He posted a 15.300 on p-bars and rings, and 15.200 on high bar, all good for gold finishes.

#3 STANFORD finished fifth at the NCAA Championships, posting a final round team score of 352.650. Eddie Penev took first on floor with a score of 16.050, as well as third on vault (15.450) and eighth all-around (86.450). Cameron Forman shared the bronze on p-bars (15.25) and tied for fourth on high bar (14.950). Stanford was the MPSF runner-up, accumulating a score of 352.100. Penev was a double-event winner, nailing a gold routine on vault (15.350) and floor (15.850), on his way to a silver all-around (87.050). The Cardinal captured two of the top-four spots on pommel horse with Chris Turner finishing second (14.750) and Gabriel Alvarado fourth (14.600). James Fosco tied for first on still rings with a 15.300, and Forman was second on p-bars (15.250).

#8 CALIFORNIA Glen Ishino was the NCAA Pommel Horse Champion (15.850), also taking fourth all-around (88.400) and sharing fourth on high bar (14.950), as the Bears placed fourth as a team at the NCAA Championships (353.000). Steven Lacombe was third on rings (15.400). Dennis Mannhart was fifth all-around (87.550). Donothan Bailey claimed the MPSF Horse title with a 14.900, also taking third on floor (15.200) and all-around (86.850). Lacombe earned the bronze on rings (15.200), while Cal took third as a team (345.950).

#12 AIR FORCE James Okamoto and Greg Chaput wrapped up the season during the individual preliminaries of the NCAA Championships. Okamoto, who advanced to the event preliminaries of the national meet for the second straight year, scored a 14.250 on horse to finish 24th in the 51-gymnast field, while Chaput scored a 12.000 on the same event to place 50th. Air Force amassed a team score of 335.950, as it served as this year's host of the MPSF Championship meet. Devin Menefee earned the Falcons' best finish in his final home competition, scoring a 14.900 to finish sixth and earning a trip to the awards podium.
