Oregon Claims its First MPSF Championship

OREGON (7-0 MPSF, 14-4 Overall) snapped Stanford's seven-year MPSF Championship run with a 13-10 title game victory over the Cardinal this past Sunday in Palo Alto. With the Ducks' first ever conference championship comes a bid into Saturday's (May 5) NCAA Play-In game, which they host, against Patriot League Champion Navy. Oregon is also just the third MPSF team to win a title (Cal '04, Stanford '05-'11, UO '12). Tournament MVP goalkeeper Caroline Federighi collected nine saves, while coupled with the semifinal win over California (14-11), the Ducks have won nine straight. Colleen Taggart, Nikki Puszcz, and Jana and Jess Drummond were also named to the all-tournament team. Puszcz had a hat trick in the final. Jess Drummond had career-highs of six goals and seven points in the semifinal, while Kristina Barrett became the all-time assist leader at UO (76) in that game.
STANFORD (5-2 MPSF, 8-10 Overall) was this year's MPSF Tournament runner-up, as Emilie Boeri, Anna Kim, and Catherine Swanson were all-tournament selections. Kim recorded three goals and four points in the final. Boeri and Kyle Fraser delivered first-half hat tricks in the 14-9 semifinal win over Denver, with Boeri totaling four goals in that game. Meredith Kalinowski added three goals and Anna Boeri dished three assists to help put the Cardinal in yet another conference title game.
DENVER (6-1 MPSF, 12-3 Overall) MPSF Newcomer of the Year Jill Remenapp recorded four points on three goals and one assist, while Kara Secora, Meredith Harris, and Melissa Maier each scored twice in the MPSF Semifinals. Secora had a pair of assists for a four-point game. Kate Henrich tallied a line of five ground balls, five draw controls, and three caused turnovers. She and Annabelle Gilbride (2 GB/1 DC/ 3 CT) were all-tournament selections.
CALIFORNIA (4-3 MPSF, 8-8 Overall) Alexa Rozelle scored four goals, freshman defender Gaby Christman posted her first career hat trick, and Melissa Humphrey dished three assists in the semifinals. Rozelle and Christman were named to the all-tournament team.
