Penev Earns Spot On US Senior National Team

#4 STANFORD senior Eddie Penev was named to the U.S. Senior National Team this past Saturday after finishing fourth at the Winter Cup Challenge in Las Vegas, NV. Penev finished the tournament with a combined all-around of 169.150 and claimed the vault title with a combined 30.300. He also had strong routines on floor (14.600), rings (14.100), and parallel bars (14.000). Penev is now a member of the U.S. Senior National Team through August 2013, when the team competes in the U.S. Gymnastics Championships in Hartford, CT. The Cardinal hosts rival California Sunday night (Feb. 17) at 6:00 pm (PT) on Pac-12 Networks.
#2 OKLAHOMA Former OU Gymnast and 2012 Olympian Jake Dalton won the all-around title at the 2013 Winter Cup Challenge in Las Vegas, Nev. with a two-day score of 173.250. Dalton, a member of the OU men's gymnastics squad from 2010-12, also won individual event titles on floor and rings with two-day totals of 31.250 and 29.650, respectively. The current Sooners are back to team competition in Norman on Saturday against Minnesota.
#14 AIR FORCE Gared Chapman tallied a mark of 12.100 on still rings to tie for 21st in Las Vegas. He concluded with a 20th-place score of 13.900 on the vault. The Falcons return to team action for the All-Academy Meet, taking on Army and Navy Saturday (Feb. 16) in Atlanta, GA.
#10 CALIFORNIA posted a season-best 69.950 on the p-bars, in the dual loss at No. 2 Michigan, Feb. 2. Cal also saw strong individual performances on vault from Matthew del Junco (14.950) and senior Christian Monteclaro (14.900), who placed second and third respectively to contribute to the team's 72.050 overall. Ryan Patterson registered a 14.000 on the high bar to claim second place. The Bears are at Stanford Sunday (Feb. 17), televised live on Pac-12 Networks.

This is Penev's third gymnast of the week award this year.
