Cal Wins MPSF Openers; Four Straight For DU, UO

CALIFORNIA (2-0 MPSF, 2-2 Overall) won a pair of MPSF home games last week, defeating St. Mary's, 18-9, and UC Davis, 18-12. Gaby Christman totaled eight goals, while Lizz Lavie dished six assists combined over the two wins. The Bears host Iona and Virginia Tech this week.

DENVER (1-0 MPSF, 6-1 Overall) made it four straight wins with a 17-5 outcome over Winthrop and 18-7 MPSF win over Fresno State. Kate Henrich moved to within five caused turnovers of cracking the all-time top-10 in NCAA history. Jill Remenapp had a 16-point week on four goals and 12 assists. The Pioneers look for a homestand sweep as Boston U. visits Wednesday (Mar. 13).

OREGON (0-0 MPSF, 4-1 Overall) Kate Cathell scored six goals and handed out three assists, leading the Ducks to two one-goal wins over Vermont (14-13, 3 OT) and Davidson (7-6), and fourth straight overall. Nikki Puszcz nailed the overtime winner against Vermont. No. 2 Florida visits Eugene on Saturday (Mar. 16).

# 18 STANFORD (1-0 MPSF, 4-2 Overall) won its MPSF opener last Friday, 17-12 over USC, followed by a 14-10 home win over Temple Sunday. Rachel Ozer combined for 11 points on eight goals and three assists, including four goals vs. No. 11 Georgetown. The Cardinal takes a break until Mar. 26 when visiting Vanderbilt.

USC (2-1 MPSF, 4-4 Overall) Caroline de Lyra totaled 13 points in two games in a conference road split in Northern California. She had four goals and four assists in a 12-7 win over UC Davis and added three goals and two assists in the 17-12 loss to 18th-ranked Stanford. The Trojans host Temple and Marquette this week.

SAN DIEGO STATE (1-0 MPSF, 3-2 Overall) Bailey Ewing combined for eight goals in two games, four in a 21-1 win over LIU Brooklyn and four in a 14-13 loss to La Salle. The Aztecs host Marquette and Temple this week.

ST. MARY'S (1-3 MPSF, 2-3 Overall) Rachel Minarovich scored four goals on just four shots and assisted on another score as the Gaels beat visiting Marquette, 16-7. She also had nine draw controls and secured a ground ball. SMC is off until Mar. 22.

UC DAVIS (0-3 MPSF, 1-4 Overall) Elizabeth Datino had four goals and three assists in the game against California. The Aggies host Virginia Tech and Iona this week.

FRESNO STATE (0-1 MPSF, 1-3 Overall) goalkeeper Katie Wilbur combined for 28 saves over three games last week. On Sunday against Denver, Wilbur totaled 17 saves, breaking the Fresno State single-game record. The Bulldogs are off this week.

Denver sophomore attacker Jill Remenapp (Woodbine, MD) combined for 16 points in three wins last week, recording four goals and 12 assists. USC freshman midfield Amanda Johansen (Glen Head, NY) had a game-high five goals and an assist in a 12-7 win over UC Davis. She also had a ground ball and a caused turnover to go with six draw controls against the Aggies. Johansen then had two goals and an assist at No. 18 Stanford, where she also picked up another five draw controls.
