ASU Rallies Late For Comeback Road Win

ARIZONA STATE (16-4 Overall/3-1 MPSF) erased a 9-7 deficit with under five minutes left in the game last Saturday at No. 5 California, for a 10-9 comeback MPSF road win. Alicia Brightwell put away four goals and Petra Pardi nailed the power play game-winner with 1:15 left, for ASU's third win over the top-five this year. The Sun Devils, who also won at Pacific 11-6, return home this week to face Colorado State, Pomona-Pitzer, and Stanford. Brightwell added four more goals vs. UOP.

USC (15-0 Overall/3-0 MPSF) raced out to a 5-0 first quarter edge, and 10-1 by halftime, leading to an 18-4 MPSF home win over San Jose State last Friday. The Trojans had 11 players find the back of the cage, with Monica Vavic and Kelly Mendoza delivering a hat trick apiece. USC takes on Hawaii Saturday (Mar. 23) in Honolulu.

CSU BAKERSFIELD (8-16 Overall/0-2 MPSF) won a doubleheader at UC Santa Barbara this past Sunday, 10-5 over Marist and 14-10 over Iona. Sam Shead posted a career-high five goals against the Gaels, before Nicola Barrett had four against the Red Foxes. The Roadrunners are at UCLA Sunday.

CALIFORNIA (12-5 Overall/0-3 MPSF) Emily Csikos scored four goals, while Breda Vosters and Ashley Young added two apiece against Arizona State. With 205 career goals, Csikos is within seven from all-time Cal leading scorer Colette Glinkowski. The Bears host Harvard Saturday (Mar. 23), winning the first meeting this year, 14-5.

SAN JOSE STATE (8-7 Overall/0-2 MPSF) dropped an 18-4 outcome at top-ranked USC last Friday, and return home to face Harvard Thursday (Mar. 21), followed by Santa Clara Saturday (Mar. 23).

STANFORD (14-1 Overall/2-0 MPSF) was off last week, and hosts Harvard Friday (Mar. 22), before MPSF resumes at Arizona State Sunday (Mar. 24). Annika Dries and Kiley Neushul each scored hat tricks, while Gabby Stone collected nine saves with just four allowed, as the Cardinal defeated San Jose State 15-4 on March 9 in Palo Alto.

UCLA (18-3 Overall/1-1 MPSF) was off last week, and hosts CSU Bakersfield in an MPSF game Sunday (Mar. 24). Emily Donohoe scored a career-high five goals, on just six shots, to lead a 10-7 win over No. 5 California at home on March 9. The Bruins also defeated San Diego State 9-5 the next day.

ALICIA BRIGHTWELL MPSF KAP 7 PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Arizona State senior Alicia Brightwell (Sydney, Australia) scored four goals each in games against #5 Cal and #19 Pacific to help ASU improve to 16-4 (3-1 MPSF) and the best 20-game record in school history. She scored four in ASU's dramatic come-from-behind victory at Cal, including one in the fourth that closed the gap to one after the Golden Bears had taken a two-goal edge. NICOLA BARRETT MPSF KAP 7 NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK

CSU Bakersfield freshman Nicola Barrett (Cape Town, South Africa) scored five goals and posted two assists as CSUB swept a pair of matches at the UCSB Mini Mar. 17. Barrett had four of the five goals against Marist as the `Runners defeated the Red Foxes 10-5. She also drew three ejections on the day, two in the 14-10 victory over Iona College. This is Barrett's second MPSF Newcomer honor this year (Feb. 18)...
