2013 MPSF Gymnast of the Year

KATIE YAMAMURA - SENIOR - UC DAVIS

UC Davis senior Katie Yamamura (Palo Alto, CA) had one of the most outstanding single seasons and careers in MPSF Gymnastics history, and repeats as gymnast of the year. She earned three gymnast of the week awards this year, each in the last five weeks, giving her 13 through four years. Yamamura owns the league's highest regional qualifying score on vault (9.830) and all-around (39.015), ranks second on balance beam (9.780) and uneven bars (9.805), and third on floor (9.780) through the regular season. On March 15, Yamamura tied her own two-week old school all-around record 39.325 (MPSF No. 6 all-time), helping the Aggies to a program record 195.625. On March 1, she became the fourth Aggie to hit a 9.90 on bars, also ranking sixth all-time in the MPSF. Like her junior year, Yamamura earned a perfect five all-conference honors, putting her career total to 14. A neurobiology, physiology & behavior major, Yamamura has received all-academic honors from both the MPSF and NACGC.

2013 MPSF Assistant Coach of the Year

CAROLYN KAMPF - FIFTH YEAR - UC DAVIS

UC Davis Assistant Coach Carolyn Kampf earns her second MPSF award (2011, '13). Kampf works with the Aggie floor squad. Michelle Ho ranks tied for sixth in the West Region on floor with a 9.885 RQS, while Stephanie Stamates has a 9.830 average. UC Davis has scored 49 or better on that event five times this year, including each of the last four meets (MPSF Championship Meet included). On March 1, UC Davis accumulated a floor total of 49.350, the highest in that event in the MPSF since 2004. The Aggies also scored an MPSF Championship-High on floor (49.025). Originally from All-Olympians Gymnastics Center and Palisades Charter High in Los Angeles, Kampf lettered four years at UC Davis. A 2007 UCD graduate with a psychology degree, Kampf was also a two-time MPSF All-Academic honoree.

2013 MPSF Coach of the Year

JOHN LAVALLEE - SEVENTH YEAR - UC DAVIS

UC Davis Head Coach John Lavallee picks up his fifth MPSF Coach of the Year award (2007, '08, '09, '12, `13) in his seven-year career at UC Davis. He guided the Aggies to a Regional Qualifying score of 194.615 heading into the MPSF Championship Meet, and ultimately a fourth consecutive conference title. This month alone, the Aggies have put together one of the most impressive seasons in MPSF Gymnastics history. On March 1, the 195.475 team total was the fourth-highest ever in the MPSF, and the best since `04. That night, the floor (49.350) and uneven bars (49.050) rotations were also MPSF-Highs since '04 and in the top-five all-time for the conference. On March 15, the team took down the overall standard from two weeks earlier, with a 195.625. Each rotation that night went down in the top-10 all-time at UCD. On March 8, the Aggie vault squad accumulated a 48.950, a program event record and the best vault rotation the conference had seen since '04.
