MPSF Quarterfinal Results and Semifinal match-ups

No. 1 Seed BYU 3, No. 8 Seed Hawaii 2

No. 1 seed BYU defeated No. 8 seed Hawaii 3-2 (25-19, 20-25, 22-25, 25-12, 15-13) on Saturday in the MPSF Quarterfinals to advance and play in the MPSF Semifinals next Thursday at 8 p.m. MDT against No. 4 seed UCLA (live on BYUtv). As the highest seed, the Cougars will host the rest of the MPSF tournament. Ben Patch led all players with 25 kills and a .456 attack. Taylor Sander was the other BYU player in double figures with 13. The Cougars registered 9.5 blocks to Hawaii's 6.5 and hit .369 compared to the Warriors' .319.

No. 2 Seed UC Irvine 3, No. 7 Seed UCSB 2

Second seed UC Irvine rallied to win the final two sets and defeat seventh seed UC Santa Barbara, 3-2 (26-24, 22-25, 20-25, 25-19, 15-10) in a MPSF quarterfinal match at the Bren Events Center Saturday. The Anteaters improve to 23-6 overall and extend its winning streak to six in a row. UC Santa Barbara ends its season at 15-16 overall. Sophomore opposite Zack La Cavera posted a career-high 19 kills to lead UC Irvine, while also adding six digs and two block assists. Senior All-American Kevin Tillie had 15 kills, seven digs and two blocks. Evan Licht led UC Santa Barbara with 19 kills, 10 digs and four blocks

No. 3 Seed Long Beach State 3, No. 6 Seed Stanford 0

Third-seeded Long Beach State swept No. 6 Stanford in an MPSF quarterfinal match Saturday at the Walter Pyramid. Set scores were 25-21, 25-17, 30-28. With the win, LBSU (23-7) advances to the semifinals for the second time in the last three years. It will face second-seeded UC Irvine, which edged No. 7 UC Santa Barbara in five sets. Junior Ian Satterfield paced the 49ers with 12 kills on .308 hitting, while classmate Taylor Crabb had 11 kills and a match-high nine digs. Senior Colten Echave added nine kills (.538) and junior Dalton Ammerman finished with eight kills. Redshirt freshman Taylor Gregory led the way at the net with five blocks.

No. 4 Seed UCLA 3, No. 5 Seed Pepperdine 0

Fourth-seeded UCLA defeated fifth-seeded Pepperdine in three sets on Saturday in the John Wooden Center to advance to the semifinals of the MPSF Tournament next week at BYU. Scores of the match were 25-19, 25-18, 25-18. UCLA, which has captured 10 of its last 11 matches, improved its record to 21-10 on the season, while Pepperdine fell to 14-12. Dane Worley led the Bruin attack this evening with 13 kills. Robart Page, who had six digs, and Quiroga, who had three blocks, added nine kills each. Rowe was a force at the net with seven block assists and had six digs. Connor Bannan totaled 33 set assists for the Bruins who hit .386 for the contest. Evan Mottram added five digs.
