Provo, UT---Top-seeded BYU captured its fourth MPSF Championship Tournament crown, and first since 2004, with a straight-set victory over No. 3 seed Long Beach State on Saturday in Provo. Set one saw the Cougars fight off a pair of set points, the first of three closely contested frames. MPSF Freshman of the Year Ben Patch delivered 18 kills, hitting .394, while tournament MVP and player of the year Taylor Sander added 15 at .357. Devin Young was seven for an errorless 10 (.700) on the night, also earning all-tournament honors, along with Josue Rivera. Taylor Crabb (16 kills, .394) and Connor Olbright (37 assists, seven digs) were all-tournament selections for the 49ers. The Cougars receive the NCAA automatic bid for the MPSF into next week's NCAA Tournament at UCLA (May 2 & 4). Loyola-Chicago (MIVA) and Penn State (EIVA) are the other two NCAA Automatics, to be joined by one at-large team to be determined Sunday.
