Aztecs Stay Hot With Second-Half Eruption

SAN DIEGO STATE (6-1 Overall, 3-0 MPSF) Meris Walsh put away four of her seven goals last week in the home win over UC Davis, to help the Aztecs stay unbeaten in conference. She also totaled five draws for the week, which also included a home win over LIU-Brooklyn, 22-6. In the win over the Aggies, the Aztecs erupted for an 11-2 second-half run to break open a 6-6 game at the half, for a 17-8 final. Katrina Reeves collected a career-high 15 saves in that win, nine coming in the final 30 minutes. Vickie Porter posted a hat trick, three ground balls, and three draws against LIU-Brooklyn.

OREGON (3-3 Overall, 1-0 MPSF) won its MPSF opener last Saturday at home, 18-3 over Fresno State, as Carly O' Conell recorded three goals, two assists, and seven draw controls. Caroline Federighi stopped 12 of 22 shots (.545) throughout the weekend, which also included the home game against Connecticut. Bella Pyne collected three goals and three ground balls over the two games.

USC (3-2 Overall, 1-0 MPSF) freshman Michaela Michael racked up four goals (her first career hat trick), four draw controls, two ground balls, and one assist against UC Davis last Friday in Los Angeles during the Trojans' MPSF opener, a 15-10 win. Amanda Johansen added three draws and ground balls, two caused turnovers, and a goal. USC also edged Columbia, 9-8, at home Monday (Mar. 17), and hosts Princeton Wednesday (Mar. 19).

UC DAVIS (5-2 Overall, 1-2 MPSF) just completed an extremely busy week with four games. The Aggies knocked off Siena and Robert Morris at home, as Elizabeth Landry knocked in four goals against each. She went on for a 12-goal, 14-point, and 22-draw control week. Her career draw control count has reached 163, seven away from the all-time school record, and 46 away from Jen May's top MPSF total (2005-08, Oregon).

CALIFORNIA (2-2 Overall, 1-2 MPSF) defeated Siena at home last Wednesday, 16-6. The Bears raced out to a 12-0 lead by halftime. Gaby Christman put away a career-high five goals on nine shots. Paige Gasparino and Amelia Burke both delivered first-half hat tricks. Burke went on to convert four of her five shots in the game.

FRESNO STATE (1-7 Overall, 0-4 MPSF) Marcy Levatino finished the weekend with six points and five goals in two games in Eugene. She had one goal against Oregon and recorded a season-high five points off four goals and one assist against UConn on Sunday.

ST. MARY'S (0-4 Overall, 0-2 MPSF) Molly Kuptz recorded 2014 MPSF-Highs of nine ground balls and five caused turnovers against Robert Morris last Friday. Rachel Minarovich collected seven draw controls.

COLORADO (4-4 Overall, 1-1 MPSF) traveled to No. 9 Massachusetts and New Hampshire last week. Johnna Fusco and Cali Castagnola each recorded a hat trick and one assist in Durham. The Buffaloes host Brown Saturday.

# 15 STANFORD (5-1 Overall, 1-0 MPSF) was off last week, and returns to action Saturday (Mar. 22) against St. Mary's. The 15th-ranked Cardinal claimed a 19-5 MPSF road win at Fresno State (Mar. 5), before heading east in knocking off No. 11 Towson, 8-7 (Mar. 7), and No. 14 Georgetown, 11-10 (Mar. 9), both in overtime. MPSF Offensive Player of the Week Hannah Farr accumulated four goals, one assist, 10 ground balls, eight draw controls, and caused 2 turnovers through the week, including the OT winner at Towson. Defensive Player of the Week Lyndsey Munoz collected 17 saves of the 34 shots on goal she faced on the east coast. Alex Poplawski tallied a hat trick in Fresno and forced OT with a late game-tying goal in Towson.

DENVER (5-1 Overall, 2-0 MPSF) was off last week, but defeated Winthrop, 16-9, on the road Monday (Mar. 17). The Pioneers picked up two home over Vanderbilt, 10-8, and Temple, 12-9, two weeks ago. Meredith Harris scored four goals in each game, while Jill Remenapp dished six assists against the Commodores. Remenapp also had six points against the Owls on two goals and four assists. Hannah Hook collected 14 saves in that win.
