MPSF Battles Tough vs. Ranked Competition

SAN JOSE STATE freshman Kaitlin Won's first all-around victory (38.950) led the Spartans to a narrow second-place finish behind No. 10 California (194.875-194.750), and ahead of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Won recorded season-bests of 9.750 on bars, 9.750 on beam (T-3rd) and 9.800 on floor. The Spartans tallied 49.125 on floor, 10th-highest in school history. Maddie Herr scored a 38.925 all-around, taking second by just .025. She tied her season-best on floor with a 9.825 and on beam at 9.725. Amy Bellingham scored a career-best 9.800 to win the beam title.
UC DAVIS scored 193.950 in a rigorous meet at No. 4 Utah on Jan. 16, which included No. 24 Southern Utah and Boise State, in front of 14,254 fans. Dani Judal took third on beam (9.825), while Stephanie Stamates shared fourth on floor (9.800).
SACRAMENTO STATE placed second of four at No. 18 Arizona on Jan. 16, totaling 193.350, ahead of Illinois-Chicago and Wisconsin-Stout. Lauren Rice finished second all-around (38.925), backed by a 9.775 on vault, 9.750 on floor and 9.700's on bars and beam. Annie Juarez tied for second on floor with a career-high 9.85. Nursing an ankle injury, Kalliah McCartney competed on bars (9.80) and beam (9.725), placing third in each.
ALASKA-ANCHORAGE accumulated 188.850 in the Ozone Collegiate Classic at the Knoxville Convention Center (Jan. 17). The Seawolves placed behind No. 14 Bowling Green, BYU, and Wisconsin-Whitewater. M'rcy Matsunami had a team-high on three events, scoring 9.70 on floor and 9.65 on both vault and uneven bars.
SEATTLE PACIFIC Sophomore Tracie Villanueva was the Falcons' top scorer on uneven bars and balance beam against Central and Eastern Michigan (Jan. 17). A season-high score of 9.825 on bars put her in a third-place tie on that event and was just 0.025 off her career-best. Villanueva received a score of 9.70 on beam, reaching that mark in both her meets this year. Seattle Pacific totaled 187.250, snapping a streak of 24 straight meets of 190-plus, dating back to the start of the 2013 season.
AIR FORCE did not compete last week and returns to action Saturday (Jan. 24) against Seattle Pacific.
