Denver Turns In Big Second Half For MPSF Win

NO. 18 DENVER (1-1 Overall, 1-0 MPSF) is the first in the MPSF win column, backed by a remarkable second-half at Colorado (Feb. 11). The Pioneers used an 8-1 run in the final 30 minutes in winning 10-6. Hannah Hook stopped five of six shots on goal in the second frame. Nicole Martindale posted a second consecutive hat trick, along with an assist. Rachael McKinnon also netted three goals, while Jill Remenapp added two assists in bringing her all-time MPSF record total to 158. Enter her one goal, Remenapp's career-point total moves to 249, tying for fourth all-time. Denver heads to Vanderbilt Sunday (Feb. 22).

OREGON (2-0 Overall, 0-0 MPSF) scored the first seven goals to open its season at Presbyterian (Feb. 13), en route to an 18-1 rout. Hayley Milner collected three goals and Holy Johnson dished five assists. Oregon was dominant with a 34-5 shot advantage, as well as 16-5 on caused turnovers and 27-12 in ground balls. In the second game of the road swing at High Point (Feb. 15), Milner again delivered for the Ducks, putting away the game-winner with 4:11 to play. The strike answered High Point's 5-0 run which had leveled the contest at 8. The Ducks forced 17 turnovers to help move to 2-0 on the year.

COLORADO (1-1 Overall, 0-1 MPSF) earned its first win when hosting Marquette (Feb. 14). Johnna Fusco tallied four goals and two assists. Blair Sisk put away a hat trick and dished one assist. Two of her goals came over an 8-0 run. Paige Soenksen recorded 10 saves, allowed just five, and kept Marquette off the board in one span of 33:24. Fusco had three goals in the MPSF and season opener against No. 19 Denver. The Buffs are off until Presbyterian visits on March 2.

NO. RV USC (0-1 Overall, 0-0 MPSF) took No. 5 Northwestern to overtime in its 2015 opener (Feb. 7), holding the Wildcats scoreless for 26:31 in the first half in which

USC led 7-0. Caroline de Lyra tallied five points on four goals and one assist. Elizabeth Eddy had three ground balls and three caused turnovers. Freshman goalkeeper Gussie Johns, in her collegiate debut, had a game-high five ground balls and stopped six shots. Michaela Michael had seven draw controls. The Trojans are receiving votes in this week's IWLCA Poll. They are next in action this week at Stony Brook (Feb. 20) and Marist (Feb. 22).

FRESNO STATE (0-0 Overall, 0-0 MPSF) begins the 2015 season with a conference road game at Stanford Wednesday (Feb. 18). The Bulldogs defeated Occidental in an exhibition contest on Jan. 31, 20-3. Marcy Levatino scored four goals and had two assists to lead a group of nine different Bulldog scorers. Anjelica Fuccillo, Caroline Dineen-Carlson and freshman Nicole Ortlieb all had three goals each.

NO. 19 STANFORD (0-0 Overall, 0-0 MPSF) reached the MPSF Championship game for the 11th consecutive year in 2014. The 19th-ranked Cardinal host Fresno State (Feb. 18) and Notre Dame (Feb. 20) in their first two games. The contest against the Irish is televised live by Pac-12 Networks.

ST. MARY'S (0-0 Overall, 0-0 MPSF) The Jessica Mucci era begins with an MPSF Game at California on Feb. 25.

UC DAVIS (0-0 Overall, 0-0 MPSF) travels to Lehigh Friday (Feb. 20) and Lafayette Sunday (Feb. 22) to open the season.

SAN DIEGO STATE (0-0 Overall, 0-0 MPSF) travels to Florida Friday (Feb. 20) and Jacksonville Sunday (Feb. 22) for the first two games of 2015. The Aztecs competed in their first ever postseason game last year in the MPSF Quarterfinals.

CALIFORNIA (0-0 Overall, 0-0 MPSF) hosts Notre Dame on Sunday (Feb. 22), televised live on Pac-12 Networks. Brooke Eubanks takes over at the helm of the Bears.
