MPSF Sweeps Individual Event Titles

No. 1 OKLAHOMA stayed unbeaten on the year with a tri-meet victory at Iowa. The top-ranked Sooners (440.850) defeated No. 8 Iowa (428.450) and No. 7 Ohio State (422.600). Oklahoma is the only program in the nation to score above a 440 at every meet in 2015. Sweeping all seven individual titles, the Sooners have claimed 16 of a possible 18 event first place finishes through three meets this season. Hunter Justus (FX, 15.200), Mike Squires (SR, 15.600), Michael Reid (PH, career-high 15.700), Colin Van Wicklen (V, 14.800), Danny Berardini/William Clement (HB, 15.100), Dylan Akers/Alec Rubin (PB, 14.800), and Allan Bower (AA, 85.500) were all event winners. Squires stayed undefeated on rings this year.
No. 8/10 AIR FORCE defeated Army, 426.700-412.800 (Feb. 1), winning every individual and team event title. Nick Gaudlip picked up two titles on the floor exercise (14.900) and high bar (14.800), while Josh Ramos scored the second-highest parallel bars score in Academy history (15.100) to take first. Tim Wang and Aaron Nubine finished first on the pommel horse (14.900) and vault (14.450), respectively, while Fletcher Braunton completed the Falcons' event sweep with the top still rings show (14.400). The Falcon pommel horse team set an academy record. Air Force and Army meet again Saturday (Feb. 7), joined by Navy, for the annual All-Academy Championship Meet in Houston, TX.
No. 5/6 CALIFORNIA won a dual with a record-setting team score against the Arizona State club team, 438.300-408.600, arriving in Tempe, AZ the day of the meet (Jan. 30). Kevin Wolting and Kyle Zemeir set career-highs all-around, going 90.200 and 88.200 to finish first and second, respectively. Wolting's all-around tied for the third-best in Cal history, winning vault (15.500), high bar (career-high, 15.200), and floor (15.500) in the process. The Bears also set school team records on parallel bars (73.850) and high bar (73.900), and had a season-best team score on horse, 72.050. Yordan Alexandrov set a career-high on parallel bars to win the event (15.000).
No. 2/3 STANFORD was off last week, and travels to Michigan Saturday. The Cardinal registered a season-best team score of 437.550 to place second at home against No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 6 California and No. 10 Nebraska (Jan. 24). Stanford produced season-bests on floor (74.750), pommel horse (70.300), rings (74.050) and vault (74.700). The team score on vault was a meet-high, while tying Oklahoma for the highest score on parallel bars (73.150). Sophomore Akash Modi earned individual titles in the all-around (season-high 90.150), parallel bars (15.450) and pommel horse (14.800). He placed second on high bar (14.650) and fourth on rings (15.050). Modi is the first gymnast in the country to break 90 all-around this year. Sean Senters remained undefeated on vault this year, tying for first with a season-best 15.400.
