Denver, USC Battle Against Top-Five

NO. 19 DENVER (0-1 Overall, 0-0 MPSF) began its season at No. 3 Syracuse this past Saturday (Feb. 7), an 18-10 win by the Orange. Senior Kiki Boone and redshirt freshman Nicole Martindale each recorded three goals on four shots. Jill Remenapp, the all-time MPSF assist leader, dished three to bring her career total to 156. She also moved into fifth-place all-time in MPSF career points with 246. Hannah Hook collected 12 saves. The 19th-ranked Pioneers visit Colorado for an MPSF game Wednesday (Feb. 11).
NO. RV USC (0-1 Overall, 0-0 MPSF) took No. 5 Northwestern to overtime in its 2015 opener (Feb. 7), holding the Wildcats scoreless for 26:31 in the first half in which USC led 7-0. Caroline de Lyra tallied five points on four goals and one assist. Elizabeth Eddy had three ground balls and three caused turnovers. Freshman goalkeeper Gussie Johns, in her collegiate debut, had a game-high five ground balls and stopped six shots. Michaela Michael had seven draw controls. The Trojans are receiving votes in this week's IWLCA Poll. They are next in action at Stony Brook (Feb. 20) and Marist (Feb. 22).
FRESNO STATE (0-0 Overall, 0-0 MPSF) begins the 2015 season with a conference road game at Stanford on Feb. 18. The Bulldogs defeated Occidental in an exhibition contest on Jan. 31, 20-3. Marcy Levatino scored four goals and had two assists to lead a group of nine different Bulldog scorers. Anjelica Fuccillo, Caroline Dineen-Carlson and freshman Nicole Ortlieb all had three goals each.
NO. 20 STANFORD (0-0 Overall, 0-0 MPSF) reached the MPSF Championship game for the 11th consecutive year in 2014. The 20th-ranked Cardinal host Fresno State (Feb. 18) and Notre Dame (Feb. 20) in their first two games. The contest against the Irish is televised live by Pac-12 Networks.
COLORADO (0-0 Overall, 0-0 MPSF) immediately jumps into MPSF action to open its second season of competition this week, hosting Denver Wednesday (Feb. 11). The Buffs also host Marquette Saturday (Feb. 14). In its inaugural season of 2014, Colorado reached the MPSF Semifinals.
OREGON (0-0 Overall, 0-0 MPSF) travels to Presbyterian (Feb. 13) and High Point (Feb. 15) to start its season this week. The Ducks were a 2014 MPSF Semifinalist.
ST. MARY'S (0-0 Overall, 0-0 MPSF) The Jessica Mucci era begins with an MPSF Game at California on Feb. 25.
UC DAVIS (0-0 Overall, 0-0 MPSF) travels to Lehigh (Feb. 20) and Lafayette (Feb. 22) to open the season.
SAN DIEGO STATE (0-0 Overall, 0-0 MPSF) travels to Florida (Feb. 20) and Jacksonville (Feb. 22) for its first two games of 2015. The Aztecs competed in their first ever postseason game last year in the MPSF Quarterfinals.
CALIFORNIA (0-0 Overall, 0-0 MPSF) hosts Notre Dame on Feb. 22, televised live on Pac-12 Networks. Brooke Eubanks takes over at the helm of the Bears.
