UC Davis Sets All-Time MPSF Record

UC DAVIS knocked off No. 21 Washington to wrap up the regular season (Mar. 13), on the strength of an MPSF record-setting total 196.900, three-tenths ahead of the Huskies. The Aggies took down their own conference record of 196.425, set just over one calendar year ago. Dani Judal scored a 9.850 on vault, 9.900 on bars, 9.850 on beam and 9.850 on floor en route to a school-record 39.450 all-around total. The four-event total shattered Katie Yamamura's previous Aggie standard of 39.325 (done twice), and ranks second in MPSF history behind only Jessa Liegl of Air Force (39.475; 3/9/04). Stephanie Stamates recorded a 9.95 on floor, tied for third in MPSF history. Alexis Brown went 39.250 all-around, a UCD freshman record. Kala DeFrancesco hit a 9.90 on bars. The Aggie vault squad achieved a conference record 49.250.
SACRAMENTO STATE accumulated a school record 196 against Utah State (Mar. 15) in the final home meet for retiring head coach Kim Hughes. The score broke an 11-year old Hornet record of 195.875. The Hornets totaled 49.075 on vault (T-5th MPSF all-time) and 49.125 on beam (T-3rd MPSF all-time). Cassie Benning placed second on floor (9.850). Lauren Rice went 39.225 all-around, tying for second. Sacramento State is the defending MPSF Champion.
ALASKA-ANCHORAGE M'rcy Matsunami turned in a school record and first-place 39.200 all-around at Air Force (Mar. 9). Matsunami became just the second MPSF gymnast since 2004 to hit 9.900 on bars, as the Seawolves accumulated a school record 193.825. The Alaska Airlines Center is the site of the 14th annual MPSF Women's Gymnastics Championship Meet, Saturday (Mar. 21) at 6 pm (AT), the first time the Seawolves are hosting the event.
SAN JOSE STATE placed second at the Oregon State quad with 194.675. Cami Guyer was the fourth MPSF Gymnast this year to record a 9.90 on floor, as the Spartans totaled 49.350 in the event, tied for seventh in MPSF history. Guyer's all-around of 39.050 sends her to the MPSF Championship with five straight meets hitting 39. Maddie Herr shared the bars title (9.875).
SEATTLE PACIFIC Pagie Blaney and Maria Hundley performed fifth-place routines on vault and beam respectively at Oregon State (Mar. 14). The Falcons totaled their second-highest season score of 193.225. The Falcon floor squad totaled 49.125, tied for third in the MPSF this year. That effort was led by Sydney Clark's career-high 9.875, as well as 9.85's from Ariana Harger and Brittany Atchison.
AIR FORCE ended its regular season with a191.050 total at Arizona State (Mar. 13). Jessica Wallander and Kara Witgen each posted top-three routines. Wallander, the 2013 MPSF Vault Champion, scored 9.775 for second-place, while Witgen went 9.825 for a third-place floor.
