Buffs Post Dramatic Win in Ann Arbor

COLORADO (4-2 Overall, 0-1 MPSF) fought off a five-goal deficit late in regulation at Michigan on Sunday (Mar. 22), on its way to a 14-13 win in overtime. The Buffs were down 11-6 with seven-plus minutes remaining in regulation, and used a 6-1 run in the final five minutes to force OT. Darby Kiernan put away the last of her career-high five goals just over one minute into the second OT period to complete the huge comeback. She added four ground balls and five draw controls. Blair Sisk tallied a hat trick, and goalkeeper Paige Soenksen came up with two big stops in OT, finishing with eight. Last Tuesday (Mar. 17), Colorado edged New Hampshire at home, 10-9., as Kiernan had a line of three goals, two draws, one assist, caused turnover and ground ball. Soenksen recorded 11 saves in that win.
DENVER (5-2 Overall, 1-0 MPSF) had a Thursday game at Temple canceled due to inclement weather. However, the Pioneers won their fifth game of the year over Yale 9-6 (Mar. 17). Kiki Boone delivered six of the nine DU goals, while Hannah Hook made seven saves.
SAN DIEGO STATE (7-2 Overall, 4-0 MPSF) made it a program-best seven-game win streak with a 20-6 conference home win over St. Mary's Sunday (Mar. 22). The Aztecs were especially productive off the bench, scoring 15 of the 20. Alex Watson led that effort with four goals (five points), while Falon Manns and Vickie Porter added three. Michaela Jarvis and Lauren Maack each dished three assists, with the latter adding a goal.
USC (6-2 Overall, 3-0 MPSF) raced out to a 7-0 lead on its way to making it a program-best six-game win streak with a 20-7 MPSF home decision over St. Mary's (Mar. 20). Amanda Johansen recorded five points on three goals and two assists, along with three draw controls, while Michaela Michael and Annie Ruland also netted hat tricks. Michael added a game-high eight draws and Caroline de Lyra dished a game and season-high five assists.
OREGON (7-2 Overall, 2-1 MPSF) posted a conference road win Monday (Mar. 23) at Fresno State, Olivia Pyne netted three goals. Cambi Cukar scored once and dished a game-high four assists. Carly O'Connel added two goals and two assists. Jackie Moccia collected four ground balls.
CALIFORNIA (2-6 Overall, 1-2 MPSF) Elizabeth Koehler had three ground balls at Towson (Mar. 21). Monday (Mar. 23), the Bears snapped a five-game slide with a 15-11 victory at George Washington. Bella Huther tallied five goals and one assist. Gaby Christman recorded a line of four goals, three ground balls, three draws, and two caused turnovers.
FRESNO STATE (2-8 Overall, 0-4 MPSF) Marcy Levatino and Anjelica Fuccillo each posted hat tricks in the Monmouth game (Mar. 19). Holly Cisneros had four draws and two ground balls, and goalkeeper Megan Weissenfels picked up 10 saves. Nicole Ortleib scored a game-high four goals vs. Oregon Monday (Mar. 23), and Weissenfels had 12 saves.
ST. MARY'S (0-7 Overall, 0-4 MPSF) Jaclyn Biggers scored twice, while Molly Kuptz and Sydney Pinello each picked up four ground balls at San Diego State (Mar. 22). Biggers recorded a hat trick and four points at USC (Mar. 20), while Pinello had five ground balls. Megan Armes added three ground balls and caused three turnovers.
NO. 9 STANFORD (4-0 Overall, 1-0 MPSF) has been off since a 22-11 rout at Vanderbilt (Mar. 8), and travels to No. 15 Penn State Tuesday (Mar. 24). Lucy Dikeou tallied a career-high six goals, one away from the Stanford single-game record. Kelsey Murray added four goals to go along with three assists. Kelly Myers set a Stanford single-game record with 10 draw controls against a Vanderbilt team ranked fourth in the country in draw controls per game. It was also the second-most draws by an MPSF player this year. Meg Lentz held the nation's No. 7 point scorer Mallory Schonk (5.20 P/G) to no goals and one assist.
UC DAVIS (1-5 Overall, 0-0 MPSF) was off last week, and travels to Towson and Johns Hopkins this week. Elizabeth Landry accumulated a 2015 MPSF-high tying seven goals against the 24th-ranked scoring defense in the nation, Bryant (Mar. 14). She added four ground balls, four caused turnovers, and a pair of draw controls. Her career draw total stands at 191, bringing her to within 35 of the all-time conference record. Landry also poured in five goals in the Old Dominion game (Mar. 10), along with four draws and three ground balls.
