MPSF Seeds Finalized This Week

NO. 15 STANFORD (11-2 Overall, 7-0 MPSF) is the last remaining unbeaten MPSF team following home wins over San Diego State 22-10 (Apr. 17), and then-unbeaten USC, 12-6 (Apr. 19). The Cardinal have clinched at least a top-two seed and MPSF Quarterfinal bye, and would receive the No. 1 seed with one win this week at UC Davis Wednesday (Apr. 22) or at California Sunday (Apr. 26). Stanford also earns the top seed with a San Diego State win on Saturday. Lucy Dikeou recorded four goals in each game last weekend, including a natural hat trick over an early six-minute span vs. USC. She added 10 draws, four caused turnovers, and three ground balls for the week. Allie DaCar made a career-high 14 saves along with five ground balls vs. USC, while Adrienne Anderson held Michaela Michael (USC, MPSF leading scorer) and Christina Ricciardulli (SDSU leading scorer) to a combined two goals and no assists.
DENVER (10-4 Overall, 5-2 MPSF) Jill Remenapp moved into second-place all-time on the NCAA assist chart after unleashing a 2015 MPSF-high seven assists in the16-5 win at St. Mary's (Apr.19). Remenapp, the MPSF all-time assist leader, now has 184 entering the final week of the regular season. She added a goal and three assists earlier in the week in the 17-5 win at Cal. Kiki Boone had 10 draws for the week, jumping to fourth all-time in the MPSF with 204. Nicole Martindale tallied a first-half hat trick at Cal, while Rachael Dillon put away five goals. Denver hosts Oregon and Fresno State to close the regular season. Two wins solidifies the three seed for DU in the MPSF Tournament which it hosts (Apr. 30-May 3).
USC (11-4 Overall, 7-1 MPSF) has clinched one of the top-two MPSF Tournament seeds, and a quarterfinal bye, and visits San Diego State Saturday (Apr. 25). The Trojans erased an early 4-1 deficit at UC Davis (Apr. 17) en route to a 15-5 win. Michaela Michael led that outburst, collecting five goals and two assists, along with five draws. Courtney Tarleton picked up a game-high five ground balls plus two caused turnovers. Gussie Johns totaled 19 saves for the week, 14 in the Stanford game.
SAN DIEGO STATE (9-6 Overall, 5-3 MPSF) Christina Ricciardulli recorded three goals and five ground balls in a 12-9 road win at UC Davis (Apr. 19). Felice Artuso added a pair of goals, ground balls, and draws. Sophie Koubek had four goals and Lauren Paul a game-high four ground balls at Stanford. The Aztecs host USC (Apr. 25) to close the regular season, where a win clinches at least the four seed for the MPSF Tournament.
CALIFORNIA (3-12 Overall, 2-6 MPSF) picked up an MPSF home win over Colorado, 12-10, snapping a six-game slide. It is the second-straight year Cal earned a win over CU. Bella Huther recorded four goals and three assists, including scoring three times in the second half to lead a comeback from four down. Lizz Lavie added two goals and two assists. Gaby Christman had two goals, two ground balls, and four draws, while Huther scored once vs. Denver. Cal hosts Stanford Sunday (Apr. 26) to wrap up the season.
COLORADO (8-6 Overall, 3-4 MPSF) Marie Moore and Katie Macleay scored four goals apiece in a 21-5 win at St. Mary's (Apr. 17). Moore added three assists, while Carly Cox dished a game-high four. Darby Kiernan, Amanda Salvadore, and Cali Castagnola also scored hat tricks. Kiernan recorded a big stat line at Cal, going for five goals (natural hat trick late in the first half), six draws, two caused turnovers, and three ground balls. Looking for the sixth and final ticket to the MPSF Tournament, the Buffs can lock that up with a home win over Fresno State Friday (Apr. 24). Oregon will also visit Boulder to close the regular season Sunday (Apr. 26).
UC DAVIS (3-12 Overall, 2-5 MPSF) Courtney Neff had four goals and an assist off the bench in the San Diego State game. Elizabeth Landry accumulated 10 draw controls for the week, bringing her career total to an all-time MPSF record 237. Mary Doyle had five ground balls and two caused turnovers vs. SDSU, along with three ground balls vs. USC. UCD needs two wins this week against Stanford at home and at St. Mary's, along with two Colorado losses, to guarantee an MPSF Tournament berth.
ST. MARY'S (0-14 Overall, 0-8 MPSF) hosts UC Davis Saturday (Apr. 25) to conclude the season. Megan Zummo had four draws vs. Colorado and three vs. Denver. Megan Armes caused one turnover vs. Denver, giving her a career total of 78, and breaking into the MPSF's top-10 all-time list.
OREGON (10-5 Overall, 4-3 MPSF) was off last week, and travels to Denver (Apr. 24) and Colorado (Apr. 26) to close the regular season. The Ducks, who clinched an MPSF Tournament bid last week while idle, picked up an MPSF road win at UC Davis (Apr. 12), 10-7. Devon Frazer matched a career-high three goals and Cambi Cukar dished two assists.
FRESNO STATE (4-9 Overall, 2-5 MPSF) ends the regular season at Colorado (Apr. 24) and Denver (Apr. 26), where two wins would give the Bulldogs a chance at an MPSF postseason bid, pending other results this week. Fresno State was off last week, and comes off its first-ever win over California, 11-10 (Apr. 12). Freshman Lindsay Hobson put away a free position goal with six seconds left for the game-winner, in a game featuring five second-half lead changes.
