San Jose State 2015 MPSF Academic Champion
Aug. 6, 2015 WOODLAND, CA--- The National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches (NACGC) has released its 2015 Academic All-American team and individual awards in women’s gymnastics for this past school year. San Jose State University has captured the second annual MPSF Academic Team Championship by carrying the top overall grade point average in the conference of 3.5505, ranking 11th across the nation and No. 1 in the pacific time zone. Alaska-Anchorage took a close second in the MPSF Competition, and 14th nationally, carrying a team GPA of 3.5413. Texas Woman’s University (3.7947) finished at the top of the NACGC Academic list, which included 74 teams.
Requiring a minimum 3.50 cumulative or year-long GPA to qualify for individual recognition, San Jose State had a conference-high 11 gymnasts earn an NACGC Academic All-American award. Also representing the MPSF was Sacramento State with 10 individual awards, last year’s inaugural conference champion Seattle Pacific as well as Alaska-Anchorage with nine honorees apiece, and UC Davis with five. The MPSF had five gymnasts carry a perfect 4.00 GPA, including Marie-Sophie Boggasch (aviation technology), Simone Penker (Natural Science), and Julia York (Psychology) of Alaska-Anchorage; as well as Dallas Smith (Communications) of Sacramento State and Adrianne Manseau (Communication Studies) of San Jose State. Other NACGC Academic All-American Honorees who led their respective MPSF teams included Lauren Glover of Seattle Pacific (3.92 GPA, Business Administration) and Rachel Kreager of UC Davis (3.94 GPA, Design).
For the second straight year, San Jose State placed nine student-athletes on this past spring’s MPSF All-Academic Team. 2015 MPSF Gymnast of the Year Cami Guyer (3.94 GPA, Justice Studies) became the first-ever Spartan to win three conference titles in one championship meet, highlighted by a 9.900 on vault, and helping the team match an MPSF Championship record total 49.150 on that apparatus. Guyer, along with teammates Maddie Herr and Kaitlin Won, proceeded to the NCAA Regionals in the all-around competition. In the home finale on March 8, San Jose State accumulated a team score of 195.675, which currently stands as the ninth-best team total in MPSF history.
