Hornets Post Opening Day MPSF-High

SACRAMENTO STATE placed third (194.325) at the annual five-team, season-opening NorCal Classic (Jan. 10), hosted by San Jose State. The Hornets placed ahead of MPSF rivals UC Davis and San Jose State, in a meet which also featured Stanford and California. Lauren Rice took second all-around (38.950) and shared second on floor (9.875). Rice's floor routine resulted in the highest score of the meet amongst all MPSF competitors. Kalliah McCartney tied for third on vault (9.80), Jesse Williams tied for fourth on floor (9.85), and Caitlin Soliwoda tied for fifth on beam (9.775).
UC DAVIS accumulated 192.700 at the NorCal meet hosted by San Jose State, the Aggies' third-highest season opener all-time. Highlighting the Aggies was Alexis Brown, taking second on beam (9.825) and sixth and bars (9.775). UC Davis competes in its home opener Friday (Jan. 15) against Seattle Pacific and Boise State.
SAN JOSE STATE totaled 191.800 as it hosted the season-opening NorCal Meet. Ellie Pascoe-Long had the highest score of the day for the Spartans, posting a 9.85 on floor and tying for fourth. Maddie Herr totaled 38.100 as one of four all-arounders in the meet.
SEATTLE PACIFIC Ariana Harger won the all-around (38.500) in her four-event debut, tied for first on floor (9.75), and was third on beam (9.625), in leading a season-opening victory over Air Force and Illinois State at the Air Force Triangular (Jan. 9). The SPU Falcons compiled 188.750. Kristi Hayashida tied for first on the beam (9.70), while Maria Hundley won vault (9.80) and shared second-place on bars (9.65).
AIR FORCE totaled 186.950 as it finished behind Seattle Pacific and Illinois State in the season opener in Colorado Springs (Jan. 9). Kara Witgen shared the floor title (9.75), while Jamie Lewis was third all-around (36.975). Sarah Neumann was fifth on beam. Air Force heads to Knoxville, Tenn., for the Ozone Collegiate Classic on Saturday (Jan. 16).
ALASKA-ANCHORAGE opens its season Jan. 23 at Bowling Green.
